This was an exploration of a hypothetical used to prove or disprove a premise that’s being suggested should be broadly applied (presidential immunity). It’s fully within the right of a judge, and not accompanied by any sort of desire for revenge or inherent bias. The faces gazing down from the walls were mostly male, with a couple of exceptions. Near the front on the left side, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, wearing a trademark jabot, had one of the better views, directly overlooking the bench, counsel table, and podium. I envied her vantage point; from her perch, I could have seen the expressions of all the players, including the defendant. I found it hard not to wonder what she would have thought of these proceedings. No doubt she would have approved of the panel of judges who heard the case: three women, of differing backgrounds and of fine reputations, each sworn to “administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and the rich.”
No doubt some of this is pandering towards the readership of the Atlantic, but I think some of it is reflective of feedback loops. We see this play out on both sides. GC becomes an outward critic of Trump, despite endorsing most of his policies, says so on Twitter, and his mentions fill to the brim with grateful liberals. His brain quickly turns to a confused mush as he now repositions his belief system around how to engender more positive feedback. It's like a morphine addict with an IV and a button.
I know none of this sentiment/observations is new, but it's funny to see it out in the wild like this. GC a fan of RBG? An advocate for a diverse judiciary? Give me a break.
