Mar-a-Lago events suspended as Trump huddles with ‘shaken’ advisers
Former president prepares for New York court appearance at Florida resort after news of indictment caught him by surprise
Weekend events at Donald Trump’s
Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, were suspended on Friday as
the former president was “huddling” with his attorneys after being
blindsided by the grand jury indictment handed up against him after
payments to the porn star Stormy Daniels.
Trump, the New York Post reported,
is meeting with advisers who were said to be “shaken” by the news of
dozens of criminal charges related to a $130,000 payment given to
Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Gregory Clifford.
“It won’t be business as usual,” a source told the Post. “They expected this but there is shock now that it’s happened.
“It’s real now. And they are worried about a surprise.”

“They’re worried about a surprise?” Really? POOTWH hasn’t had an honest day in his life and they’re worried about “being surprised?” Do they realize or know who they’re working for?
More reputations going to shit. I hope their retainers were paid in advance. Actually, I don’t.
The question is, were they really surprised? Or is this a last ditch effort to gain sympathy by suddenly going fake emo? They tried fake everything else, so maybe!

I'm sure you all remember the picture book Trizzy released of his presidency (Our Journey Together, possibly the LAZIEST title ever thought up) a coffee tabler he "curated" the photos of, scribbled on with sharpie, and released without paying, or even acknowledging, the official White House photographer or the staff there, and kept all the money himself. Actually as far as Trizzy merch is concerned, it probably LOST money, but that's beside the point.
His soon to be shot mugshot of his FIRST ARRAIGNMENT will actually be owned by the taxpayers, in this case the people of New York.
Fuck that guy and his personal recognizance. He gets nothing, except a cold plate of accountability.
This judge has to be strong. DURING the arraignment, he gotta make a stand. There should be no talking/typing about the case, no fundraising, no collusion with House R's feeding them talking points, no threats, no lawyer appearances on TV, no whining, and no bitching, just a whole lotta ZIP IT or it's Contempt and get used to sleeping at RIKERS mf'er OR AT LEAST ankle braceleted and remanded to an empty floor at Trump Tower.
This isn't the WWE, this is real life. He should throw the fucking book at him. I'd start with Our Journey Together, asshole.

Exactly. He is an absolute disgrace.
However you feel about him is irrelevant. The radical left has turned this nation into a banana republic. This is political persecution in its purest sense. The fact that you are celebrating this is vile. You should be ashamed of yourselves. God bless President Trump.
1. I am a voter, so my opinion is relevant....just like yours. 2. I am not celebrating. I want his bullshit circus to END. 3. I am not ashamed at all. You don't know who I am or what positions or policies I support. But, I am a rational thinker that can differentiate between spin, truth and complete bullshit. Enjoy praising and blessing a criminal.
I appreciate you. I didn’t say your opinion doesnt matter. Dont put words in my mouth please. Your personal feelings shouldn’t come into play about a very serious precedent that was just set. Do you think this is honestly a fair outcome? Considering all the BS HRC and now biden is getting away with? Im all for people being held accountable for their BS, but every politician should be held to the same standard. It right now, it just is not. This is insane, no matter side of the spectrum you lean, to be ok with this happening is not acceptable imo. Hold everyone to the same standard. Not just trump. It’s total BS.
Please. The process under which HRC was investigated is the same as the one Trump was investigated under. The only difference was that you felt the former should've led to indictment, and the latter shouldn't have. Unfortunately, that's not where the facts (key word being facts) landed!
Note, this isn't an invitation to fabricate evidence and rewrite the facts, it's an invitation to accept reality. Trump's a loser who's on his way down for his deceptive, illegal, and astonishingly stupid tactics. I'd say that people who feel this way should be ashamed, but they were taught by Trump to abandon any sense of shame.

Trump ceded the moral high ground on presidential indictments long ago
He pushed for prosecutions of the current and previous Democratic presidents and last four Democratic nominees
A persistent idea undergirds reactions by Donald Trump and the GOP to Trump’s indictment. Sometimes it’s explicitly stated, and sometimes it’s more implicit: Indicting a former president and a candidate in the next election is beyond the pale. It’s even election “interference” or the stuff of banana republics.
Trump ceded the moral high ground on this idea long ago.
He has advocated for the prosecutions of each of the last four Democratic presidential nominees — every single one since 2004. In two cases, he did it during the campaign, even suggesting they should be ineligible to run.
And that’s to say nothing of the many other political opponents he has suggested should be prosecuted. He even, in some cases, actually agitated for that outcome when he held sway over the Justice Department.
The “lock her up” chant leveled at Hillary Clinton is the most well-known entry in this long succession. Trump at times merely goaded his 2016 rally audiences to go down that road, but at other times he endorsed it. He said late in the 2016 campaign, “Hillary Clinton should have been prosecuted and should be in jail,” and he even told Clinton to her face at a debate that if he were president, “You’d be in jail.” He added at a later debate that “she shouldn’t be allowed to run.”
By 2020, Trump gave a similar treatment to both his predecessor as president, Barack Obama, and his then-opponent, Joe Biden.
A month before the election, Trump tweeted, “Where are all of the arrests?” He added: “BIDEN, OBAMA AND CROOKED HILLARY LED THIS TREASONOUS PLOT!!! BIDEN SHOULDN’T BE ALLOWED TO RUN - GOT CAUGHT!!!”
“But these people should be indicted, this was the greatest political crime in the history of our country — and that includes Obama and it includes Biden,” Trump added during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business Network the next day. “These are people that spied on my campaign.”
Trump even indicated that he had made that case directly to his attorney general, William P. Barr: “And I say, Bill, we’ve got plenty, you don’t need any more” to indict.
Bartiromo hyped the interview in a tweet stating, “Trump calls for Biden, Obama to be indicted in ‘greatest political crime in history.’”
Trump’s allegations of spying on his campaign were routinely wrong on the substance. But it wasn’t the only instance of his suggesting such indictments or prison time for his political opponents — or even, apparently, applying pressure on the Justice Department:
Former U.S. attorney Geoffrey Berman in his book last year said that his office was charged with investigating former secretary of state and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry. That was two days after Trump tweeted about Kerry’s “possibly illegal Shadow Diplomacy” and the same day Trump said Kerry “should be prosecuted on that.”
Trump in 2018 told his White House counsel that he wanted to order the Justice Department to prosecute both Clinton and former FBI director James B. Comey, according to the New York Times. (White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders previously said the Justice Department “should certainly look at” prosecuting Comey.)
In 2019, he even stated that it would be “appropriate” for him to talk to Barr about investigating Biden.
Former Trump White House chief of staff John Kelly summed up Trump’s posture this way to the New York Times’s Michael S. Schmidt and Maggie Haberman: “He was always telling me that we need to use the FBI and the IRS to go after people — it was constant and obsessive and is just what he’s claiming is being done to him now.”
Trump’s allies will certainly argue that somehow what these people did was worse than what Trump did — or that prosecuting him and not them shows a double standard. (Worth noting: While it is not yet known what’s in the Trump indictment, the New York grand jury had been hearing evidence about money paid to the adult-film actress Stormy Daniels during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign — a proven crime in the case of his convicted former lawyer, Michael Cohen.)
But the Republican talking point generally doesn’t take into account the actual allegations and pretends as if it’s simply wrong to indict a former president and now-candidate, full stop.
“Indicting a former President is an unprecedented step, and it’s a threat to our democracy,” Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) posted on Truth Social on Thursday night. The message would soon be promoted by the man who two years ago suggested that his Justice Department do precisely that.
In a social media post shortly after his indictment became known, Trump echoed the message.
“These Thugs and Radical Left Monsters have just INDICATED the 45th President of the United States of America, and the leading Republican Candidate, by far, for the 2024 Nomination for President,” Trump said, misspelling “indicted.” “THIS IS AN ATTACK ON OUR COUNTRY THE LIKES OF WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE. IT IS LIKEWISE A CONTINUING ATTACK ON OUR ONCE FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS.”
Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn responded to Trump’s tweet by saying, “We are now officially a 3rd World Country!!!”
Justice Dept. said to have more evidence of possible Trump obstruction at Mar-a-Lago By Devlin Barrett, Josh Dawsey and Perry Stein April 02, 2023 at 15:30 ET Justice Department and FBI investigators have amassed fresh evidence pointing to possible obstruction by former president Donald Trump in the investigation into top-secret documents found at his Mar-a-Lago home, according to people familiar with the matter. The additional evidence comes as investigators have used emails and text messages from a former Trump aide to help understand key moments last year, said the people, who like others interviewed for this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing criminal investigation. The new details highlight the degree to which special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the potential mishandling of hundreds of classified national security papers at Trump’s Florida home and private club has come to focus on the obstruction elements of the case — whether the former president took or directed actions to impede government efforts to collect all the sensitive records. The emphasis on obstruction marks a key distinction so far between the Mar-a-Lago investigation and a separate Justice Department probe into how a much smaller number of classified documents ended up in an insecure office of President Biden’s, as well as his Delaware home. The Trump investigation is much further along than the Biden probe, which began in November and is being overseen by a different special counsel, Robert K. Hur. Biden’s lawyers say they have quickly handed over all classified documents found in Biden’s possession. The Trump investigation team has spent much of its time focusing on events that happened after Trump’s advisers received a subpoena in May demanding the return of all documents with classified markings, the people familiar with the matter said. Smith is trying to determine if Trump or others mishandled national security documents, and if there is enough evidence to ask a grand jury to charge him with obstructing the investigation.

CNN —
Sixty percent of Americans approve of the indictment of former President Donald Trump, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS following the news that a New York grand jury voted to charge him in connection with hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. About three-quarters of Americans say politics played at least some role in the decision to indict Trump, including 52% who said it played a major role.
Independents largely line up in support of the indictment – 62% approve of it and 38% disapprove. Democrats are near universal in their support for the indictment (94% approve, including 71% who strongly approve of the indictment), with Republicans less unified in opposition (79% disapprove, with 54% strongly disapproving).
While views on the indictment are split along party lines, the poll finds that majorities across major demographic divides all approve of the decision to indict the former president. That includes gender (62% of women, 58% of men), racial and ethnic groups (82% of Black adults, 71% of Hispanic adults, 51% of White adults), generational lines (69% under age 35; 62% age 35-49; 53% age 50-64; 54% 65 or older) and educational levels (68% with college degrees, 56% with some college or less).
CNN has reported that the former president faces more than 30 counts related to business fraud, but the indictment remains under seal and the charges were not publicly known at the time of the survey. The investigation relates to a $130,000 payment made by Trump’s then-personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to Daniels in late October 2016, days before the 2016 presidential election, to silence her from going public about an alleged affair with Trump a decade earlier. Trump has denied the affair. At issue in the investigation is the payment made to Daniels and the Trump Organization’s reimbursement to Cohen.
A scant 10% overall see Trump as blameless regarding payments made to Daniels, but Americans are divided about whether his actions were illegal or merely unethical. About 4 in 10 say he acted illegally (37%), 33% unethically but not illegally, and another 20% say they aren’t sure. Only 8% of political independents say Trump did nothing wrong, and among the rest, they are mostly on board with the indictment even if they aren’t already convinced Trump did something illegal.
Even among those who disapprove of the indictment, the perception that Trump’s actions were questionable is fairly widespread, with about half in that group saying Trump did something wrong regarding payments to Daniels (52%). Far more in that group say he acted unethically rather than illegally, though (49% unethical, 3% illegal), with the remainder split between thinking he did nothing wrong (23%) and not being sure (24%). Among those who approve of the decision to indict Trump, just 1% say his actions were not wrong at all, while 59% call them illegal and 23% unethical.
The survey suggests that the indictment has not had a major effect on views of Trump personally. The poll finds his favorability rating at 34% favorable to 58% unfavorable, similar to his standing in a January CNN poll, in which 32% held a favorable view of the former president and 63% an unfavorable one. Among Republicans, 72% hold a favorable view in the new poll, similar to the 68% who felt that way in January.
Most Americans (76%) believe politics played at least some role in the decision to indict Trump, who is both a former president and current candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. About half (52%) see it as having played “a major role” in the decision, while around a quarter say it played a minor role and 14% no role at all. Another 10% are unsure if politics was a factor in the grand jury’s vote.
Nearly all Republicans, 93%, see the indictment as politically motivated, including 83% who say politics played a major role. Among independents, 52% say politics played a major role; that drops to 25% among Democrats.
Americans are split over the effect the indictment may have on democracy. About three in 10 say the decision strengthens US democracy (31%) and an identical share say it weakens democracy (31%). Roughly a quarter say it has no effect on democracy (23%) and 15% are unsure. Republicans broadly see it as weakening democracy (62% say so). Two-thirds of those who disapprove of the indictment say the same (67%) as do 54% of those who believe politics played a major role in the decision to indict. Most Democrats see it as strengthening democracy (55%). Among those who approve of the indictment, 48% say it strengthens democracy and 30% that it has no effect on it.
The poll also finds that Americans split over the investigation launched by House Republicans into Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s handling of the Trump case, with 38% saying they disapprove of the GOP’s efforts to investigate him, 35% saying they approve, and a sizable 27% unsure how they feel about the investigation.
More than 9 in 10 Americans have heard at least a little about the historic indictment, with 51% saying they’ve heard a lot. Democrats are most apt to be highly tuned in, with 56% saying they’ve heard a lot about the charges, compared with 48% each among independents and Republicans.
The CNN poll was conducted by SSRS on March 31 and April 1 among a random national sample of 1,048 adults surveyed by text message after being recruited using probability-based methods. Results for the full sample have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.0 percentage points. It is larger for subgroups.
CORRECTION: This story has been updated to reflect the correct percentage of independents who approve of the indictment of former President Donald Trump.

I just got back from a road trip through the deep south (Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee) and I think i saw about 2 of those dumb Trump flags and one large tipped wagon along the highway that said dump Trump so I don't think he has the support he, or even some on the left, believe. I didn't see it like I did locally here in MN a few years ago. I saw way more confederate flags.

Hope you’re right but sometimes it’s the quiet unassuming ones you have to watch out for.
At some point during Spanky's presidency I signed up (under a fake name - I am NOT Anita) for his emails. Just to keep an eye on him. I've never sent him any money, never will. The emails have been coming all the time these days, maybe 40 this weekend alone.

Well I can't really argue with 1500%. I should probably at least tithe my salary here.
Judges can be very prickly if someone is turning their courtroom into a circus and/or doing things that can cause a mistrial. A good judge won't stand for it.

The question is, were they really surprised? Or is this a last ditch effort to gain sympathy by suddenly going fake emo? They tried fake everything else, so maybe!

Seven years earlier, Flynn spoke to the 2016 Republican National Convention, at which he made waves by leading the crowd in a chant of “lock her up.”

Justice Department and FBI investigators have amassed fresh evidence pointing to possible obstruction by former president Donald Trump in the investigation into top-secret documents found at his Mar-a-Lago home, according to people familiar with the matter.
