Yeah they are trying to capture the magic of the Downtowns now.
I'm not a fan of that design.

The kids go crazy for them. It is only a case hit but commands big money for the big players.
If you do these new products coming out just buy the singles. Cheaper. I'm not chasing anymore.
oh i know. ive pulled several and sold them for obscene amounts of money. was able to get multiple, awesome cards for my pc so I was glad to pull them, but would never have one in my collection.
I made a crazy purchase on ebay. Can't wait to show it when it arrives!!!
Check out the other inserts in Topps Chrome. There are a ton but they are fun!
I saw that the “Legendary Autos” or whatever they’re calling them are only available in “breaker boxes.” No thanks. Plus the price on Chrome is a bit much, even for the retail blasters ($40).
I just picked up a 1971 Topps Pete Rose for $15. Absolutely beautiful card. One corner is rough but only noticeable on the back of the card.

For a 71? Yeah all day long!
There are people whom are doing the breakdown of the chrome boxes and It is what I have been screaming for a while now. BUY SINGLES!
I might buy a box just for the fun of it. I actually like having the singles to go back through later on.
I just realized that the Ames bros commented on the card. Did they make some of those?
Yeah looks like a poster

There are a ton of rare SSp cards in chrome this year. I am watching them fall off a cliff the more that get pulled. I'll be gobbling up some here real quick. Eventually these will be gone to collectors and won't be seen for years.
Fanatics is having a "fanfest" event in NYC this month. It is pitting itself up against a very big east coast card show. I think this is done by design.
Burbank Sportscards is leaving ebay in favor of Fanatics new auction site. That's 4 million listings... Fanatics Collects is the new auction site.
If you like opening packs or boxes of new products then I am sure you've noticed the sticker shock. That is also by design. The newer products are geared towards breakers. They even have "breakers delight" boxes. Fanatics cares about making money and gives zero F's about the actual fan.
The newer platforms are all geared towards gambling. I wouldn't be surprised that all the people that "repack" or even Fanatics themselves, maybe the breakers, get sued one day.
If you like collecting buy singles. Collect what you like. I'm collecting players I like and ones that might be HOFers. Mike Trout will be even cheaper for me to get now.
My buddy and I were considering going to that Fanatics show but I really can’t stand how they are bullying their way into everything and taking over. It’s like they’re stripping the soul out of the hobby.

All about profit. They produced an All-star topps set, the full set, just for the ASG. At fanfest they are producing cards just for that event. These differ from the national cards. Those are different than the regular issue. These are an NYC exclusive and have a NYC background on them. They are also bringing in a ton of sports icons to this. They are spending money to grab peoples attention. https://www.fanaticsevents.com/ffnyc/show-features/exclusive-topps-products

I’m about done with the never ending parade of variants being put out too. Base, blue base, pink base, refractor, prism refractor, rainbow refractor, gold refractor, (insert your favorite color) sparkle refractor, wave ray, hot dog foil, fireworks foil, Halloween foil, Christmas, camo, ASG, American flag, and on and on and on. Just stop it.
Found a checklist that lists 30 different variants of the 2024 Topps Series 2 Ohtani #500. The list didn’t include the ASG and the New York ones. So that makes 32 different versions of one card, and I’m positive there are more. Bananas.

Correct at 32. I am currently striving for the rainbow of card #413 Trout and Witt. Why? I dont open packs and having a goal makes it interesting.
As far as collecting ALL of them? I'm just getting the rarer SSP's and continuing my Trout PSA10 Refractor variation run. I don't need all of the other colors in chrome.

I agree about all that. Collecting any modern player is way too overwhelming. I wish it could be simplified and streamlined a bit. I really dont see the need for so many damned variants and color variants. Too many product lines too and I wish some trash products were culled like Topps Finest. Topps Finest looks like a picture of a player superimposed over a card that a unicorn wiped its ass on.
I also think the whole "Breaking" culture ruins it for me. Breaks were cool, and I get the need for them to keep the card-boom going, but so many breakers are annoying and it is oversaturated. Now it has been made corporate and Im sure Fanatics will put their fingers on the scales.
Here’s some insight. At fan fest they charged dealers 3000 a table. At the East Coast National card show they charged 300.
Look up the contract for Fanatics to be a participant at their show. They literally want ALL your information. Contacts, sales, who you sell, what you sell, gross sales etc. basically give them all your info for free and your still not guaranteed a spot.
Some dealers were forced to join the event. They were strong armed over getting more allocation of product. Fanatics controls distribution now.
You are openly letting them have all the insight they need to write their own playbook to takeover everything else.
Won’t let you hire your own security to escort your inventory to the floor. You can’t set up your own booth.
Fanatics owner is extremely upset that the rights to The National were not sold to him and is going to have a fanatics event pitted against any outside major sports card event.

Individual cards for me. Almost always vintage.
