Bathroom Posters

I was wondering if Silkscreen Prints can survive in a bathroom environment. Primarily in a high-humidity area if there is a shower etc. We have a beach theme going, but a couple of Ohana prints could look sweet! Just not sure about the survival rate.

Yeah, I wouldn't do that. Maybe find high-res images of them and frame those?

You can't take them with you :)

Unless you paid a fortune for them, why not hang them there and enjoy them?

The jackelope is perfect for the bathroom. Always there if you were ever to run out of toilet paper.

It will get wavy over time, possibly moldy, plus the light source will suck it's color out.  But if a I don't give a shit print, and it will just hang there until it's death you wont notice until you unframe it.

Plexi glass is less likely to produce condensation with temperature and humidity changes, go that route if you are going to risk it.

That's the Frank Kozik right? He, Ames Bros and Kevin Shuss... it's fascinating how some artists are so bipolar with what they do, although the Fenway Shuss is still a strong poster and probably might be the #1 poster of those Fenway shows if not for the Catch.

I likely wouldn’t hang a valuable poster in the bathroom for the reasons above (if I was worried about retaining value). That said, if I had a print that fit the room, and wasn’t one I was concerned about ever selling, I’d consider dry-mounting or plaque-mounting it and hanging it to display. I realize that’s sacrilege in collectors circles, but if I just wanted to enjoy the art then go for it. We’ve done that with artwork from the kids, and it fit the room and made them/us happy so it was a win-win.

I totally get why people try to keep silkscreens pristine and mint, and I’ve been in that headspace over the years, but I also love just enjoying the art whether it’s double matted under museum glass, or dry-mounted - it’s there for personal enjoyment.

Yeah, Kozik for the Oakland 2013 show.
