I've been exposed to some Twilight Zone type of theft...

I feel very uneasy and weird right now.
Around Christmas I bought clothes (jackets) from the UK. I think it cost around 300 dollars or whatever. Not Benaroya-money but still money. I was out of town from Christmas and over New Years, until like the 7th of January.
I had not received my jackets or any notice from the postoffice about picking them up or something, when I got home. So I checked and found a tracking number in the invoice from the clothing store. The tracking number said that I had received the clothes at 12:02 CET on the 2nd of January. Five days before I went back home.
My first thought was that the postal service had dropped the package outside my door, and without me picking it up after a while someone snatched it "american porch pirate"-style. But, the post office said that no, they delivered it to my door to be signed and ID shown to retrieve the package. Which they said I must have shown. And I must then have gotten a knock on my door, and opened it...
But I wasn't home. I was out of town.
Now, I have to file a complain to the clothing store company, saying that the post office says that it was received by me (signature and ID shown at the door) but I was not even close to being in town on that date. Also file a police report.
Who has stolen my package? And how? A neighbor could have, but have they been stalking the stairwells with a Spiritual_Chaos fake-ID waiting for the chance of the Postoffice to come by with a package? Doesn't make sense. Or did the postoffice-dude fake it somehow and steal the package? Or have I in some Jekyll and Mr Hyde way gone home on the 2nd....
I guess this will end with me loosing my Jacket and the money. But I wanna know how the fuck this happened.
This makes me uneasy as hell.
