* Props to @mfc2006 for naming the thread 'Favorite' instead of 'Best'. For example, 'Meet The Moonlight' may not be the definitive 'best' album-of-the-year but, hot damn, I enjoyed the heck out of those ten earworm songs and will definitely return to them in the months ahead. These twenty albums are my favorites (for now, at least;) and, kinda like doing a bourbon taste test, after the first few they start to get a little muddled.
** Preach on, @timsimmons ....there's sooo much good new music out there, we just gotta take the time to turn over stones to discover what interesting creatures live beneath them. I look forward to turning over quite a few stones from your lists.
*** I hope you list makers will consider contributing occasionally to the 'TEN ALBUMS CURRENTLY FLOATING YOUR BOAT' thread. Selfishly, I'd enjoy seeing what's making you shake your moneymaker, and the TACFYB thread is a helpful tool at year's end to scroll thru and revisit what and when you fed your ears over the course of the year.

I think the Swifties are a little upset we never had her album on our lists. We are getting “Kanyed”. Just walk right up on this thread and finger-wag our lists… we just shrug it off like Beck lol.People like what they like, find it rather odd that there is still some kind of “peer pressure” to convince me that there is a lot of great music “out there”.First of all, I am sure there is. Let me tell you why I don’t know about it:
1) time. I don’t have a lot to “unearth” new music.
2) geographical location. I don’t have the opportunity to go out each weekend and see a new live act, particularly one with a release
3) social media. I don’t do it and that is where most of this stuff is “released” now.
4) digital music. It sucks and I prefer to listen to my vinyl records. I love everything about vinyl.5) age. I’m old now, I rarely (if ever) buy a record just because of the artwork like I did when I was young (Tool and Quicksand first releases come to mind). Spending money freely on unknown music is less likely as I become more risk averse with age. To that end, newer artists record artwork leaves a lot to be desired imo.Post edited by 1ThoughtKnown on0 -
I don't listen to much new music. But some favorites OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD
Neil Young - Toast
Wet Leg - Wet Leg
Peter LeMarc - Hemkört, ett destillat
Taylor Swift - Midnights
Maybe Eddie Vedder - Earthlings
Other cool releases (non new studio albums)
My Morning Jacket - Vol 2, Live in Chicago
Liam Gallagher - Down by the River Thames
Neil Young - Noise & Flowers
KISS - Creatures of the Night (Deluxe edition - for the B-sides and Live tracks)
Guns N Roses - Use Your Illusion Deluxe Edition (for the live tracks)"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
I have to admit that I did listen to a lot of stuff, but not much stood out for me in terms of new releases. I found myself listening more to older records. Only four I can think of off the top of my head:
Blackbraid - I
Muna - Muna
Beach Bunny - Emotional Creature
Linda Lindas - Growing Up1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, CaliforniaNothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
2022- Oakland Night 2
2024 Sacramento, CA0 -

Slash feat. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators — 4
The Pretty Reckless — Other Worlds
The Slash album completely dominated most of my listening this year. Caught them at The Beacon Theatre in March — SECOND ROW, right in front of Slash — and the show was OUTSTANDING!!
Also caught The Pretty Reckless last week at Bowery Ballroom, and they put on a helluva concert!0 -
Motorpscycho - Ancient Astronauts
Fontaines DC - Skinty Fia
Jack White - Fear of the Dawn
Fantastic Negrito - White Jesus Black Problems
The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention

How did people rate / like the new Arctic Monkeys record this year!? (If you’ve indeed heard it / or are into them). Came out in Oct. Just heard snippets and I quite like it. Will delve into it a little more this coming week.
