If you’re planning on voting republican, maybe consider a last second change and vote third party instead. It’ll have a greater impact.

The community feel is nice. Ours never runs smoothly though. This should not be a volunteer job, get government employees who do this for a living in there. The high school kid handing out ballots and the 75 year old typing in names is not the way to run this.

Another reason exclusive vote by mail is the way to go.

I agree, we live in a small rural town. My polling place used to be in the fire department across the street from my house. They would see me crossing the street and already have my voter sign in paper out and ready to sign. Now I have to walk one block down and one block over to get to my polling place. The poll workers all seem to be having a good time and it is always pleasant to go in to vote.

In California, it is now a paid position. I still thank them for working the polls, because its a tremendously important contribution to the process.

Vote by mail is good if you have a specific need, and request it. If you don't really need to vote by mail, it just massively delays the count. Even if you drop your ballot off at a polling place on "voting day", it still has to be hand scrutinized, signature compared, etc. causing days and sometimes weeks of extra time to get to the final results.

When you vote in person, (depending on the equipment they have available) your vote in most cases is registered before you leave the polling place, electronically. Either by a touch screen device with paper backup inside, or an electronic scan of your actual paper ballot, which is then retained via lockbox (for recount purposes, etc.).

    Either way, vote!
