The PJ Community’s Dirty Dozen Of Your Favorite INSTRUMENTALS

The title Dirty Dozen comes from that classic war movie from the 60’s. Lots of stars in the film that I somewhat remember when it came out in 68’ I think. So here name your favorite instrumentals from any genre of music. You can even name two instrumental together from the same artist. One can share a few words on the song and a video. Just so that others can experience the song in this OTHER MUSIC section. I’ll give my first 6 then the latter half later in the thread.

1. La Villa Strangiato….RUSH….This is my second favorite Rush song, a classic instrumental that came to Alex in a dream and guys were only around 25 years old.

https://youtu.be/eK1hmDpa8bo

2. Always With Me, Always With You….Joe Satriani….A classic groove which shows the best side of Satch’s guitar playing.

https://youtu.be/BsJisD7n8_Q

3. Orion….Metallica….A heavy metal groove with time signature changes that I liked from the first time I heard it.

https://youtu.be/iL42fwM5muE

4. Maggot Brain….Funkadelic….I believe guitarist Eddie Hazel was given the direction to play as if he had just lost his mother. One can feel some pain in his style of play on this song.

https://youtu.be/JOKn33-q4Ao

5. Taste Of Passion/Modern Times Blues….Jean Luc Ponty….This from my favorite violinist, at times he plays his violin like a guitar amazing.

https://youtu.be/jttEx4Kdp_w

6. Conquer Or Die….MEGADETH….This song would be higher but it is simply 3 minutes too short. Gimme MORE, the track just sizzles.

Oh yeah, I've never heard these tracks b4. I'm listening to these tracks through my stereo system and I had to stop. Then watch how these guitar sounds were being created. Outstanding  playing that movie soundtrack awesome and that's why WE here at PJ.C share this music so others can hear something they've never heard b4.

Highly recommend Gabriela and Rodrigo, they do a lot of covers and Orion is one of them.  These two can play.

BF & Flecktones, that is some amazing sounds being created. I love that 🎵  sound of which I've never heard b4. The guy on bass is awesome, he sounds or plays sort of like Stanley Clarke.

The Call Of Ktulu was aways a tune that was set for an orchestra backing. That version works together so well. I forgot Jason played on that song. Speaking of Jason, I saw him last week up in Jupiter at a strip mall. All I could say was, OS that was Jason Newsted. He looked up and just smiled. I gave it right back at him.🙂
Oh I almost forgot, I was told later that his home is in Jupiter.

That is awesome- I was sorry he left, although I do like RT on bass as well.

Victor Wooten is amazing.  He also plays in a band with Stanley Clarke.

I wonder if it had bass in it back in the day how much cooler it would have been?  At this point in time if I heard the bass remix I don't think it would be the same.  Thoughts?

Oh and I do LOVE that song too. The second part, much like Orion, is my favorite part and how it creeps in to Dyers eve.

This scene from the Dirty Dozen a favorite of mine....

Donald Sutherland was hilarious in this movie and even better in Kelly's Heroes.

Another favorite, this one from Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band.  I'm not sure what input Van Vliet had on this number other than to instruct guitarists Jeff Moris Tepper and Gary Lucas to put heavy gauge strings on their guitars, but the order was carried out to good effect: "Semi-Multicoloured Caucasian:

"Pretty cookies, heart squares all around, yeah!"
    -Eddie Vedder, "Smile"

"Try to not spook the horse."
    -Neil Young

love this. sounds like a great song for a sports team to use. unless that would be considered appropriation, given the obvious indigenous overtone.

Lol🤣, I know what you mean I've the same problem. When I put this together it was three in the morning. I went back checked what you were talking about and still didn't catch it and I'm a stickler for spelling. Thanks for seeing that, carry on people.
