My 47 Shows Ranked 1-47

Been working on this the past two days. I know we all get caught up ranking shows and chasing songs, but after 47 I wanted to try. I think Eddie sounded his best this tour since 2010. When ranking I consider performance, crowd, setlist, venue, occasion, etc. I’ve also considered show length specifically to this past tour. Bottom of the list is specifically due to energy from the crowd.

  1. MSG 2 2010
  2. Gorge 2005
  3. Philly 3 2009
  4. MSG 2022 (maybe some recency bias, if anything drop to 6)
  5. MSG 2 2003 (still better than the DVD night)
  6. MSG 1 2003
  7. Krakow 2018
  8. Camden 2022 (old school PJ night)
  9. Philly 4 2009
  10. Charlottesville 2013 (was completely surprised)
  11. Berlin 2018
  12. East Rutherford 2 2006
  13. MSG 1 2016 (best main set out of all these shows I’ve seen)
  14. Brooklyn 2 2013 (got second row, and met Rodman)
  15. Reading 2004 (most underrated show, crowd was wild - best Half Full and Insignificance)
  16. Fenway 2 2016
  17. Gorge 1 2006
  18. Wrigley 2013
  19. Wachovia 2005 (terrible seats, wish it was higher)
  20. MSG 1 2010
  21. Fenway 1 2016
  22. Rome 2018
  23. Nashville 2022 (setlist and acoustics)
  24. Milan 2014
  25. Amsterdam 1 2014
  26. Gorge 2 2006
  27. Camden 1 2006 (when the leash got dropped, and Blood will forever be a memory)
  28. Uniondale 2003 (my first show)
  29. MSG 2 2008
  30. Wrigley 2 2016
  31. Vancouver 2005
  32. MSG 1 2008
  33. LA 2 2022
  34. PJ20 2 2011 (had lawn 10c seats, Cornell)
  35. STL 2022 (surpassed expectations for the 3rd night in a row, good crowd but short set)
  36. East Rutherford 1 2006
  37. Philly 1 2009
  38. PJ20 1 2011
  39. Wrigley 2 2018 (Ed did not sound great IMO)
  40. Denver 2022 (dead crowd, was expecting more for the last night but it’s always the second to last night that’s better)
  41. LA 1 2022
  42. MIA 2012
  43. Hartford 2006
  44. San Diego 2022
  45. Bristow 2010
  46. Virginia Beach 2008
  47. Sea Hear Now 2021 (bad crowd, band was shaking off the rust)
I wish I saw more 2010 and 2003 shows. 2010 probably my favorite tour to go back to bootlegs. 2003 right there. Wish I got any show on the Italian run in 2006.

2022: STOP DOWN TUNING SO MUCH. Yes some songs do need it, but most of them do not. Eddie is still singing some of those down tuned songs the same as he always has: Go, Last Exit, Animal, Save You, Faithful, Whoever Said, Rats. That said; Breath, Garden, HTI, Porch, RVM, and Once all sounded good for him down half a step.

Here’s to 50 in 2023 🥂

Impressive! I tried to rank 1-18 after MSG but couldn't even get close to finishing.

I admire your ability to rank that many shows.  I’ve been to 48 and the best I can do is break them into two tiers… maybe a good or great grouping.

Off the top of my head I would put Randall’s Island 2, MSG 2 1998, MSG 1 2003, Spectrum 4 2009, MSG 2 2010, Toronto 1 2011, and Wrigley 2013 into the great category and the other 41 shows in the good category.
    1996: Randall's Island 2  1998: East Rutherford | MSG 1 & 2  2000: Cincinnati | Columbus | Jones Beach 1, 2, & 3 | Boston 1 | Camden 1 & 2 2003: Philadelphia | Uniondale | MSG 1 & 2 | Holmdel  2005: Atlantic City 1  2006: Camden 1 | East Rutherford 1 & 2 2008: Camden 1 & 2 | MSG 1 & 2 | Newark (EV)  2009: Philadelphia 1, 2 & 4  2010: Newark | MSG 1 & 2  2011: Toronto 1  2013: Wrigley Field | Brooklyn 2 | Philadelphia 1 & 2 | Baltimore  2015: Central Park  2016: Philadelphia 1 & 2 | MSG 1 & 2 | Fenway Park 2 | MSG (TOTD)  2017: Brooklyn (RnR HOF)  2020: MSG | Asbury Park  2021: Asbury Park  2022: MSG | Camden | Nashville  2024: MSG 1 & 2 (#50) | Philadelphia 1 & 2 | Baltimore

I could never rank them. That 2004 Reading show did have a great setlist, but it also had the worst sound ever and they blew the stacks.
  • Not sure how Charlottesville is behind MSG and Camden 2022.  That just seems bonkers to me.  Ha.

We have 12 show overlap.  Philly 2005 should be higher.  Much higher.

Not my type of setlist, but incredible show

Wish it was. I had last row upper deck in the corner. Hearing that setlist I was almost in tears I couldn’t hear or see anything.

I remember the sound being bad, but I had 3rd row side stage next to Mike. The small venue, the crowd, and Eddie’s anger were top notch

  • I’ve been to 42 and I’ve thought about doing this but don’t think I could actually get it down on paper- kudos for the effort! Really hard to think critically about stuff that happened 25 years ago!

I host a podcast where we talk about great albums and favorite songs.  We often talk about favorite song vs. best song.  Basically, subjective vs. objective.  I couldn’t tell you which shows most would agree are the best.  But of my 27 shows, my favorites are:

-Jazz Fest 2010 (got engaged that weekend)
    -Amsterdam 2, 2012 (honeymoon)
    -Wrigley 2, 2018 (just a fun night)

Hershey 2003 is my least favorite of my almost 60 shows too. But really all other 59 were at least so good, if not great, if not f'ing fantastic, so that's a damn impressive track record & why we all follow as long as we do.
  • I’d give some love to Sea Hear Now 2021 only because it was the first show since before times and just being there was an incredible experience.

61 shows here. And that Hershey show is definitely at the very bottom for me as well.

Bad show.  Bad crowd.  Venue sucked.  Pj played a three hour show the night before so they didn’t have much energy, probably the only time I saw them go thru the motions.

I had an amazing time, but I was at the front. I heard from others afterward that a lot of the crowd further back was dead, probably because they played so much Gigaton. I, on the other hand, was thrilled that they came out and opened with three Gigaton songs. Red mosquito with DC was also really cool, and I loved my city of ruins.

Same! I generally go in with lower expectations for festivals, but this was a pretty good festival set. I also enjoyed the duet, and it was great hearing know your rights and wma.

To be honest, most of their best US shows have been on the east coast and in the Midwest because we are rowdier on the east coast 😅

Yes! Everything mcgruff said.  However, They were back in fine form two nights later for Holmdel to end the US leg.

Also, our car broke down on way home after show and we had to stay in this disgusting motel. We had no way back to NJ.  We ended up having to get a taxi to the local airport in Lancaster (I think)  to rent a car to get home.  Thank god my brother was old enough to rent a car because the rest of us weren’t.  I know that shouldn’t reflect on the show, but the whole trip there was an absolute shit show

  • Made in America was an awesome show.

Worst for me was Jazzfest 2010 - mediocre setlist and the concert experience was not good. (The rest of Jazzfest and New Orleans in general was awesome!)

My 2016 Fenway show was disappointing just due to being in a "regular people" section. Everyone sitting down and having no idea what this is for In Hiding.

SeaHearNow was nice but a weird vibe and being so far back on that beach.

Holmdel was my favorite show of the 10 I did in 2003.  So good.  Loved the two songs of each studio album for first set. I had scored a second row single at The box office the day tickets went on sale.  My brother scored the seat right in front of me so we both ended up on the rail.  My first time seeing them that close.
