How early to get good spot in GA Pit?

Going to my 4th Pearl Jam concert and got GA Pit tickets. First time in the PIT, got their too late and was in the back. If the concert starts at 8pm, what time should I show up to get merchandise then wait in the Pit for a decent spot? 2 hours before start time is what i typically would do at other shows but how early do you guys recommend getting there? 5pm? 4pm? Thanks in advance

  • Depends on what you mean by decent spot.
The middle will fill up first, in front of EV. Then MM side, then Stone side. I have GA in Camden and can’t get there until 5. I’m expecting middle/back near stones side. Figure EV and MM will be well packed in by then
  • At LA night 1, I walked up casually to second row maybe 5 feet from in front of Ed at 530.

Depends on your definition.  Arena pits are so much different than stadium pits.  For stadium shows we'd show up around 4 pm, and be maybe 15 to 20 people back, usually centerish (you could be a little closer if you went to the sides).

The only shows I've had Arena pit tickets too were Vancouver 2013 and both Oakland '22 shows.   They're so much easier.  For all 3 we'd show up an hour before the start time on the ticket (so doors had recently opened kind of thing).   You'd kind of start with maybe 6 or 7 rows of people in front of you, but once you get closer to show time and the crowd starts to shuffle/comperess a bit, all of a sudden I've got maybe 4 or 5 people between me and the stage (center stagish).

Pretty amazing for showing up at 6:30pm.   The crazy thing is it felt like almost no one showed up after we did.  This pause in traffic until about 7:30pm, so I don't think we'd be that much further back if we showed up an hour later.

My view in Fresno at 6:25pm having just walked up with zero effort to move closer and no zoom:

Small world...I was about 15' from you at that show. I would have been somewhere near the guy in the Cornell shirt taking a swig from his drink...must have been sitting/resting when you took the photo. My buddy and I were second row and neighbors during the show with, I think, a friend of yours @PJNB

5 mins before showtime, Everyone crams up, you’ll be at the back of the pit so about 30 feet from Mike and didn’t spend an entire day getting in fights with the Even Bros

Camden is pretty much the world's smallest pit.

Be in line when doors open and you should be fine. If you want to get closer, or have to be on a specific side, consider an hour or so earlier. If you commit to getting there early, get to know the people around you.

…or just bring a random child and have them tell everyone it’s their first show to cut to the rail.
