Ranking the 2022 shows you attended

It was a long 9 year wait for me between arena tours on the West Coast. I had tickets to Sac and I'm bummed about how things ended, but so thankful I had a chance to see 5 of the CA shows. I had a blast at all of them and can't wait to see them again. I'm grateful for the energy the band puts into each and every show. They still have it!

I was thinking about my favorites of this run and was curious how others felt. Each and every show was special for different reasons. I think the ranking for me is: OAK1 > LA2 > LA1 > OAK2 > SD.

LA1 + 2 are pretty much a draw for me I think. SD was still a very good show, but it was very different from what I expected. It felt more like a campfire with all of the stories, when I was expecting more of a barn burner to start the tour after 2 years of waiting.

    Fresno > LA2 > LA1 > SD

In no way does that suggest SD was anything less than a great show. But each show I went to got better.

    1. LA1 because GA is the way to go.
    2. LA2 because it was better than PHX
    3. PHX because San Diego absolutely sucked
    4. San Diego because the setlist took the crowd out from the second song and Ed talked way too much repeating the same tired SD stories.
All in all the  shows were somewhat of a let down to me and I’m pretty happy with my decision to bail on the Oakland shows and wasn’t surprised nor super disappointed when the last two were cancelled.  The adventure of getting to the shows is still kinda fun but it’s apparent that the whole thing is halfway up the ramp to jump the shark, if it hasn’t already.

Phx - best set and crowd
    La2 - next best set
La1 - just a regular show weak crowd

Nothing impressive about SD or either OAK except WMA. Same for Fresno.

You can love the ten sets/greatest hits all you want but they are not for me at this point. Not sire how those shows are getting any love at all. Won't even consider buying the boots. Comparing to 2000 to 2006 tours where sets will still sub 30 songs the set variety just can't compete in 2022. Don't need 9 minute jams every other song myself. If they need to slow it down just add a few more slow songs / acoustics imo.

Overall, not even mad vegas was canceled. Saved 65k frequent flyer miles, got 154 bucks refunded, and no fomo of potential gems being missed.

Being at a show with come back set scratch this year and light years last year at SHN still rough considering how few songs get played from 00 to 06 albums

And for me I am just happy they played shows. They were all great in my opinion, for different reasons.

So my rankings from an earlier post really are arbitrary. I was just happy to be in the building listening to them play whatever songs they decided to play.

    1) SD

Only one I hit and I loved every second of it.  I liked a happy, talkative Vedder.  I liked a Gigaton heavy setlist (all new to me).  It was awesome.

Only saw the 2 Oakland shows. Both shows were great for completely different reasons, but set list wise Night 2 was better. I love Mirrorball, so was thrilled to hear the tune from that record. Had no idea songs from it were on the table. Add WMA and a couple others not played over the short leg, including Crazy Mary and I got close to the setlist I was hoping for, especially under the circumstance.

Night 1 had a great vibe. Super happy, fun, excited and loving Eddie. So being up close for that and feeling that energy was awesome. The band and crowd fed off of it.

Hard to Ranking but here we go :

1 - SD ,  they opened with Oceans, my white whale #1 , and because of the Gigaton set.
    2 - LA 2 , best set.
3 - OAK 1 , the crowd was really connected with EV and I had a very nice view of the stage. (I got tickets in the last minute and the seats was close from the stage.Better than the lottery seats won 2 years ago).
    4 - LA 1 - The crowd was sleeping.

Funny about lists. There’s like a 25 greatest shows list floating around, MSG gets lots of love but is there really anything special about those shows? Beside “I was there” And somebody saying show X was great because they played Bee Girl over show y that they played 33 awesome songs is proof. The Campaign show in 2003 sounds fucking amazing, band was tight AF, I wasn’t there and neither was most people that post here so of course it gets ZERO love.

One of Phish’s greatest shows was attended by very few people. They were in Salt Lake to a 25% capacity crowd. Night before they played Vegas to a crazy sold out crowd and the show was good, standard show. Next night they play Salt Lake and see nobody is there so they play Dark Side of the Moon front to back in the middle of one of their songs. Fucking Epic. Even the Phish nerds that weren’t there realize that

    Oak 2, Oak 1, Fresno

I thought every show was fantastic in it's own way, I had forgotten how long it's been seeing them in an arena. Besides Ohana, the last two shows I saw them at were in stadiums (Wrigley, Seattle). It helped being in GA, but having that intimacy being so close to the band was so special. Fresno especially being able to see how hard Eddie was battling to get through it, he really gave it his all and I think the crowd did a great job giving the band the enthusiasm to put on a good show.

If I may get sappy for a moment, one of the best things about these shows were seeing friends I've made through this band and meeting new ones. After two years of relative isolation it felt almost like getting my old life back. I just want to thank the band for giving us this opportunity for us freaks to all get together in the same place.

    1) Oak 1
    2) Oak 2

Oak 2 had the more interesting setlist, and I'm pretty sure I'd usually whine about a greatest hits setlist.  But something connected that night.  There was this fun and exparatory energy from both the band and audience of using other drummers.   I thought it made for an amazing show.  Maybe it was nearly 4 years since the last pj show, but to me it was super enjoyable.

Oak 2 was solid and pretty good, but you could tell they struggled more on night 2.  Night 1 had an amazing vibe.. loved it.

Completely agree with your assessment on these two nights. The first night I was with a few peeps who were catching their first ever PJ show and they left blown away, and why? Because they got to hear pretty much ALL of the hits they already knew. Now because of that, they’ll start digging into their deeper catalog more.

OAK N1 wins it because it was the band in their finest hour if you ask me. They were facing some major adversity attempting to play without MFC so they came out swinging with RITFW & Elderly Woman to get the crowd fired up and in to immediately, and they never let that energy waiver from that moment on. It was an amazing and gutty performance with an even more impressive crowd that night. There’s no doubt in my mind that the best crowd of the tours first leg goes to OAK N1, hands down. And if ya don’t believe me, wait until you hear Baba from that night, oh my! 🤩😎🙌🤘
