pretty sure we are pulling the trigger on Amsterdam for 7/24 (wife's birthday, she drives our PJ fandom), albeit a little late

anyone been recently? i.e. the covid era?  we've traveled to canada from the US but not overseas.  obviously things change on that front, but curious if NED has any particular oddities.

Ziggo Dome: seems like it's a little outside of where we'd like to stay?

we aren't looking for hookers, hard core drugs, or museums based on super depressing yet significantly historically relevant events so what should I make sure to see in my 2-3 days there?

thanks!

oh yeah, anyone with extras or a place to look for them we'd love it!

    Hi,
Im from Rotterdam in The Netherlands, its an hour drive to Amsterdam.
The Ziggo Dome is a 7.7km from Central station.
Just outside the Dome is a trainstation.

    A few other options:
    - Rent a bike. We have more bikes than people here :)
    - Stay in an other city than Amsterdam, like Den Haag, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Leiden.
All are 20 to 30 minutes away with the train.

Fresh stroopwafel, many varieties of Dutch cheese, fries, bitterballen were my favourite local foods.

Heineken brewery tour, Rijksmuseum, food markets & biking around the city were fun activities.

Even though you arent looking for hookers & depressing museums, just walking around the red light district at night & the Anne Frank house were some of my favourite parts of visiting the city.

    Enjoy!

WW2 resistance museum was a good way to spend an hour or two.

probably gonna be a dumb question, but is it safe & possible to ride a bike to the ziggo dome from the Sky Lounge?

Been to Dam loads of times and seen PJ there 4 or 5 times now.  Going for both shows! Not sure what the situation is re: COVID but in terms of things to do -

    Van Gogh museum
    Canal boat ride
Flower market (and some nice flea markets from time to time)
Ziggo Dome is next to the AJAX stadium so if they're playing you can see if you can catch a game?

Ziggo dome is quite far out the city centre - we usually stay a bit further out from leidseplein but its only a short tram ride into town centre then it's a train to the Ziggo.

We had fun going out to Haarlem last trip too.
  • The trains too and from the dome are regular enough, so don't let that put you off. I would personally stay nearer the city as not a great deal going on around the arena, well nothing i would particularly recommend.

I have been to Amsterdam a good few times now, so i have done most of the tourist type stuff and the regular stuff has been recommended above already. Just soak up the city. Find a nice bar next to a canal and chill. We did that last time and spent hours talking to others who had come for the pearl jam show.  Better than rushing around trying to cram everything in, or wait hours in a long line to see the Anne Frank museum.
  • oh, and watch out for bikes. I got hit by a moped last time i was there. Thankfully i am a chunky man and the person on the bike came of worse than me.

My advice, don't party yourself out too much before the show.

Saw PJ there in 2018, spent a week touring the Netherlands.  There was a canal boat tour that was good way to see Amsterdam, although downtown can be walked pretty easily.  Lots of restaurants, coffee shops and bars to check out.  We never did find a bad spot!  We used public transportation to get EVERYWHERE!
