Where is everyone staying for the show? Anyone know how tough it is to get to and from LA Downtown/Hollywood before and after the show?
I'm staying at my apartment. The Forum is in Inglewood, so it's closer to downtown, but it won't be that much of a difference to get to Hollywood. The Uber/Lyft situation will be a shitshow at the venue. There have been many times after shows where I've walked 2 miles to get an Uber that wasn't in "surge pricing". If you're renting a car, that's probably going to be the easiest, but if you're going to be drinking, don't drive, obviously. They have been known to setup checkpoints near events. You don't want to deal with cops in L.A. and you definitely don't want to spend a night in the L.A. jail.
If you're staying in Hollywood, you could take the subway downtown and Uber from there to cut some of the cost. But the cheapest and closest hotels are going to be the LAX hotels.
Easy to navigate from the terminal to the rental car structure?

I couldn't really say, since I live in LA, I've never rented a car at LAX. I do know that the rental car companies all run shuttles to their places. So I imagine if you have a reservation with Hertz or Enterprise or whatever, you just get on that shuttle.

Is there much to do around the lax hotels?
No, it is not a great part of town. If you're looking for stuff to do and want to stay in a nice area, I recommend getting a hotel or AirBnB in Santa Monica or Venice.
Is it a safe walk or bus ride from the LAX hotels to the Forum?
I would not recommend either. Probably an hour+ walk. I'm not entirely comfortable walking around Inglewood during the daytime (and I've lived here for 16 years). Not sure about bus routes in that area, but the Metro in LA isn't super reliable, especially late at night. But it's probably a 10 minute drive in minimal traffic.
Booked a hotel in West Hollywood but may change it as it looks like it could be hard work getting back to WH after the shows at the Forum finish.
It will be tough getting anywhere after the shows, but I would definitely not plan on public transportation to/from Inglewood at that time of day and Uber will be a hell of a wait and probably 3x the normal price.
If ease of travel to/from the hotel and venue and cost are your biggest concerns, I would book an LAX hotel or if you can find something actually in Inglewood (not sure what options there are, but they might have a new hotel or two there since the new stadium was built).
If you're wanting to be near "stuff to do" during the day and decent restaurants and bars, I recommend Venice or Santa Monica-- they are beach cities. Venice is a bit rougher, more bohemian, than Santa Monica, but they're both decent places for a "vacation" beach vibe.
Hollywood and West Hollywood have some cool bars and great restaurants as well, but they're a completely different vibe than the beach cities. Hollywood is grimy. Not a place I would go if I had kids with me or a girlfriend/wife that was easily bothered by "grime". West Hollywood is different than Hollywood. On Sunset Blvd in WeHo is where the Sunset Strip is and that is a cool area for rock fans, obviously. The Rainbow, The Whisky A-Go-Go, The Roxy, and the Viper Room are all right near each other and The Rainbow is a must stop. They have pretty good pizza and a long history. It's probably the inspiration for the Hard Rock Cafe chain, except actual rockstars go there. West Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd (note: not the city of Santa Monica, but the street) is the LGBTQIA capital of SoCal. It's a really nice, clean part of town, and fairly safe, but might not have the kind of nightlife/activities you are looking for.

Tons of stuff. Depends on what you're into and where you'll be staying.
Just off the top of my head, I'd recommend these things for a first time visitor-- remember, LA is huge and it will take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour to get anywhere. I'd pick only a couple of these things to do per day and remember to give yourself plenty of time to make it to the show:
The Museum of Jurassic Technology (this is the only one where I'd say don't read about it beforehand, just go in blind, trust me) Scum and Villainy Cantina The Frolic Room + Amoeba Music The Rainbow Bar and Grill Musso and Frank's Warner Bros Studio Tour Huntington Library (botanical gardens) The Echo Park Time Travel Mart Phillipe's French Dip Sugarfish (sushi) Leo's Taco Truck (get the Al Pastor) Santa Monica Pier Venice Boardwalk
Also had Hilton LAX they say they have a shuttle to and from the Forum. Willnhave to check in on those details. As previously mentioned this is not an area to walk around. Safest to swallow the cost of an uber/lyft surge. Not sure if the forum has taxis waiting. Really hoping they have some form of on premises security.

Thank you for this, really helpful. I'm there for 4 nights so based on the above I'm going to do two in West Hollywood then move to the airport hotels for the two show nights.

I think that's a smart move. Where are you coming from? Like I said earlier, in West Hollywood, The Rainbow Bar and Grill is a must. Even if you just stop in for a drink. It's like a museum where Guns n Roses and Lemmy hung out. In WeHo you'll still be able to get to Hollywood, Silverlake, Echo Park, and Downtown fairly easily (and you can do all of that by bus).
I'm staying (Sonder Lum) about a Mile from The Forum and I plan on walking. or do I need to run?
Depends on who you are and what you look like. I'm not making shit up.
"For Inglewood, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon."
Near the Forum (the parking lot), you'll be fine. A mile or two in any direction? At midnight? I wouldn't do it.

@cutz I’m booked there too but am also uncertain about the walk back. Want to do a safety in numbers thing for the walk back? Are you doing both nights? Feel feee to DM me.

I just emailed that Hilton and they said the shuttle is only for airport. Maybe you got a different person but I’d be skeptical of this shuttle idea, even though it would be a totally good business idea for a hotel.

Thanks everyone for the great tips and information. I ended up going with the Hilton Checkers in LA. Found a decent rate from hotels.com. Can’t wait for may!

Has anyone been able to confirm whether or not the Hilton has a shuttle to the Forum? I would definitely consider booking there if they did.
Debating whether to rent a car, stay closer to other stuff and drive to the shows, or stay close to the shows and use Uber to get around during the day... a hotel with a shuttle to the Forum would be brilliant.

I'm still not booked. Not much to do if you stay close is what people have said. I'm thinking of staying a little further away for stuff to do during the days.

I might be going as well and also flying solo. Wouldn’t mind an Uber mate if possible. Thinking Hilton

Just off the top of my head, I'd recommend these things for a first time visitor-- remember, LA is huge and it will take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour to get anywhere. I'd pick only a couple of these things to do per day and remember to give yourself plenty of time to make it to the show:
The Museum of Jurassic Technology (this is the only one where I'd say don't read about it beforehand, just go in blind, trust me)
Scum and Villainy Cantina
The Frolic Room + Amoeba Music
The Rainbow Bar and Grill
Musso and Frank's
Warner Bros Studio Tour
Huntington Library (botanical gardens)
The Echo Park Time Travel Mart
Phillipe's French Dip
Sugarfish (sushi)
Leo's Taco Truck (get the Al Pastor)
Santa Monica Pier
Venice Boardwalk

"For Inglewood, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon."
Near the Forum (the parking lot), you'll be fine. A mile or two in any direction? At midnight? I wouldn't do it.

Debating whether to rent a car, stay closer to other stuff and drive to the shows, or stay close to the shows and use Uber to get around during the day... a hotel with a shuttle to the Forum would be brilliant.
