Worst Trainwreck You Have Seen Live

I saw The Lemonheads this past Sunday.  They performed the entire "It's a Shame About Ray" album, which is an incredible record.

However, Evan Dando is so far gone that it was difficult to tell what song was what!  Don't know if it due to mental illness or drugs, but he was way out of sorts.  If possible, I hope he gets help!

The last trainwreck show I saw was the Pogues in 2009.  Shane McGowan was barely able to sing or stand-up by the end of the show!

28 Days…a band from Australia. They were playing as part of a festival here. The show wasn’t a complete train wreck. The band seemed tight and sounded good, but the singer was pretty drunk, rude and offensive. Most of the crowd didn’t know where to look or what to do. As I say, thankfully the music sounded good for the most part. Everyone was left thinking ‘what a tool’.

They're doing that again? I saw them do It's a Shame About Ray album about 10 years ago. It was cool to hear live and all (although they didn't play Mrs. Robinson) I don't think he was too bad when I saw them though.

Not really a trainwreck cause he was really drunk but this sticks out to me. I saw cKy in their home town in West Chester, PA and Chad fell down.

I saw Coheed and Cambria at a festival right when In Keeping came out. Claudio was so loaded he could barely stand and slurred the words to the couple songs they tried to play before they were booed off the stage.
Disappointed a ton of kids who waited in a concrete bowl on a hot summer day just to be fucked over. Never spent another cent on that band. Was a good lesson on how some bands appreciate the fans and some take advantage of them.

Hole. PointFest St.Louis 1999. Courtney Love flashed her breasts & vagina several times. RHCP and Silverchair more than made up for that.

I must be the luckiest music fan on earth.  I've never seen a show that I thought was a train wreck, never a truly awful show, never one I walked away from feeling cheated.  Like my Pop once said, "I'm a lucky Lux!"

Exodus opening for RHCP in 1990. A wall of noise, with no way of telling individual instruments or voices. It was horrible. I had seen them before and they were good, but that night was a mess.

    ^wow. Odd opener.

Lauren Hill. Took forever to take the stage then just shouted the songs. Not the voice I was expecting. Left. But looking back, any night out shouldn't be taken for granted.

Yes, it was Urban Dance Squad, Exodus and RHCP on the bill. Pretty eclectic.

Counting Crows.  They have so many great songs but live in concert, they are just horrible.  Adam Duritz is up there yodeling and singing way off key for just about every song.  It's really bad.

Kings of Leon Jones Beach 2017. My wife asked me to go with her. No energy in GA. Every song sounded like the last one. Bored out of my mind.

KOL was an interesting show for me too. Not sure I would label it a trainwreck, but the energy was definitely stale and the night felt a bit slow

Definitely not a trainwreck, but after 75+ concerts over last 22 years it was by far the worst experience even though I really enjoy their first 3 albums.

    Moby.

My wife was a huge fan, but about two songs in, one in which he pretended to play a guitar that wasn’t even plugged into anything, she turned to me and said, “Do you wanna go?”

    “For fuck’s sake, yes!”

It certainly didn’t help matters that we had both just been absolutely blown away by David Bowie with Earl Slick, Gerry Leonard, Mark Plati, Mike Garson, Gail Ann Dorsey, Sterling Campbell, and Catherine Russell—otherwise known as real musicians.

Have to agree here. I’ve seen them 2x and both were underwhelming. After the first time I had read their shows were hit or miss so I gave them another chance. We will never go again. I was never even a fan until about 10 years ago but as I got older I started appreciating the music/lyrics. But live, Very disappointing.

And they weren’t the headliners, but when I saw Soundgarden in 96 at the Roseland Ballroom, Rocket from the Crypt opened. Closest to a train wreck I’ve seen.

    Yodeling lol

I saw them w/ Live and Collective Soul several years back. I remember the lead singer of Collective being kind of a toolbag, and Adam Duritz telling love stories about half of the Counting Crows set.

I had the same experience with the Counting Crows.  It didn't even sound close to what they recorded on their albums.

The Damned in the late 1990s. Lots of violence was being threatened from the stage to an audience member.

Also, just saw Guided By Voices. Robert Pollard had a cooler of beer on stage, and was getting progressively drunker as the evening went on. They put on a very long show - it was at least 3 1/2 hours. By the end he was quite wasted. But still a fun night.

Another comes to mind. The Wallflowers. Nobody was wasted, but man, the energy was SO low. I left that one early, which is not something I do.

Too much scatting and lyric improvisation. Their live record of August and Everything After is maddening to listen to. Now, the live from Paris show 1992 or 1993 that came with the deluxe edition of August is FUCKING AWESOME.

I felt that when I saw Interpol. My friend won tickets to MSG from a radio station and I felt like the place was 1/2 empty. That can really affect the experience.

They seemed out of place as an opener and they knew it. Not a great attitude about it. Seemed pretty sarcastic and dickish towards the crowd.

Not sure if this counts too but I went to see Black Crowes and Lenny Kravitz. Lenny kravitz played a few songs and disappeared backstage. He never came back out and the announce once he was “sick”. Turns out he was just too fucked up to play. No refunds either because Black Crowes already played.

I said I'd never seen a show that was a trainwreck, but I was thinking about the musicians.  I did see one audience trainwreck and that was at the Jim Hendrix Experience show at Winterland in 1968.  The show opened with the mighty Buddy Miles Express, whose performance was terrific and well appreciated by the audience.  But sandwiched between the hurricane force freight train that was Miles' band and The Experience, was a solo acoustic performance by Dino Valenti (real name, Chet Powers) who had a solo career as well as spent time with the Quicksilver Messenger Service.  I thought that solo performance was a beautiful and lovely respite from the power of Miles and the stupendous high volume glory of the Experience set.  But many in the crowd did not agree.  Valenti was booed soundly throughout his performance.  So many selfish, impatient, and rude people.  I felt terrible for Valenti and disgusted with the crowd.

    Haven’t really seen any.

The worst was PJ London 2018 but no where near a train wreck. I just remember feeling bad for Ed the whole night because he was really struggling with his voice.  It was an enjoyable show but I was glad for him when it was over.  The next night was cancelled and rescheduled

funny enough the boot of the show doesn’t sound anything like my memory so they either cleaned it up a lot or it just didn’t translate the same way in the recording the degree to which he was struggling.
