    This headline is so misleading.
Did I miss something in this letter? According to what was posted not all trans children will be investigated, but only those who have undergone certain medical  procedures.

“Greg Abbot has officially directed Family and Protective Services to begin investigating all trans children in Texas and prosecuting their parents as child abusers.”

False. They are no investigating ALL families of trans gender kids. And the majority will not be the target for prosecution.

“He has also instructed all teachers, doctors, and caregivers to begin reporting any trans students they see.”

False. mandatory reporters are not required to report any trans students they see. Simply not true. They will be required to report if they have reason to believe an illegal procedure was performed.

What Texas is doing is banning sex-altering surprises (*edit: this includes surgeries or any “surprise” that makes your genitalia spontaneously fall off) and similar procedures including those that remove body parts.
Most trans children do not receive sex confirmation surgery or hormones. And I would agree that some procedures and medications like that should require a minimum age. I don’t know what that age should be, 8, 12, 16, 18, I don’t know. But if we’re going to discus this topic let’s not start off with misleading titles that say parents of ALL trans children will be investigated and prosecuted. The truth is only a very small percentage will.
If I’m reading that title I’m thinking if I’m a dad who lets my daughter dress up like a boy and go to school, I’ll be investigated and prosecuted for abuse. That’s not what is happening.
It doesn’t appear to me that you wrote all of this yourself. And a “very small percentage” of trans children being investigated doesn’t seem to bother you? Good to know.

I did write it all myself. You won’t find it on the internet or anywhere else.
I read the intro. Clicked on the letter and read the details and pointed out what was wrong. It wasn’t difficult.

Pointing out misinformation shouldn’t be an irrelevant point.  The first two opening lines that start off this thread are completely false. How is pointing out the introduction to the topic of this thread is false irrelevant?
I said let’s have this discussion, just don’t start it on misinformation that all trans families are being targeted for prosecution. They’re not. Let’s start with the facts and let the discussion go from there.

That was a typo that I turned into a joke after Poncier posted that meme to make fun of my typo. I doubt you’ll find that term anywhere on the internet. Since sex altering surprises isn’t a thing, and I mention surgeries, I figured it would be obvious it was a typo.
You really think your genitals can fall off if you’re surprised?

Judge partially blocks Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to treat gender-affirming care as child abuse  https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/03/02/texas-transgender-child-abuse-injunction/

Judge partially blocks Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to treat gender-affirming care as child abuse
By María Luisa Paúl and Casey Parks
March 02 at 10:00 PM EST
A Texas judge on Wednesday partially blocked enforcement of Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to treat gender-affirming care as child abuse, court documents show.
The decision by Judge Amy Clark Meachum stems from a lawsuit filed on Tuesday by the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Texas and Lambda Legal, the LGBTQ legal advocacy group. The lawsuit seeks to block a statewide directive ordering the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFSP) to investigate parents who allow their children to medically transition genders for possible crimes.
Meachum’s ruling grants a temporary restraining order to the plaintiffs represented in the case, but it does not prevent Texas from investigating other parents. The judge will consider that question in an additional hearing on March 11.
Within hours of the ruling, the state appealed the decision in what Lambda Legal counsel Omar Gonzalez-Pagan called a “very unusual, cruel and frankly, extraordinary move.”
“They’re seeking an appeal for a temporary restraining order that applies only to four plaintiffs,” Gonzalez-Pagan said. “It is a cruel and punitive zealousness with which the Texas governor and attorney general are proceeding to persecute transgender youth and their families. It is reprehensible and should really cause alarm for everybody.”
The offices of the state’s attorney general and the governor did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
[ACLU files lawsuit over Texas governor’s order to treat gender-affirming care for kids as child abuse]
According to the lawsuit, officials had begun investigating parents of transgender kids one week after Abbott (R) directed the state’s health agencies to handle certain gender-affirming treatments as crimes.
In his letter, the governor noted that the Office of the Attorney General, Ken Paxton, had determined that providing medical treatments such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy could “legally constitute child abuse” under Texas law.
“I hereby direct your agency to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of any reported instances of these abusive procedures in the State of Texas,” Abbott wrote to the commissioner of Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
[‘These are powerful people who are attacking children’: Parents respond to Texas’s latest anti-trans directive]
Among the families the department had began probing, the lawsuit shows, was a mother who works for the department responsible for the investigations. According to documents filed in Travis County district court, Jane Doe is an employee of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Her 16-year-old daughter, Mary Doe, is transgender and has been receiving medical care from the same pediatrician for most of her life. After her pediatrician diagnosed her with gender dysphoria, she has received treatments that include puberty blockers and hormone therapy to initiate a female puberty.
The day after Abbott issued his order, Jane Doe was placed on leave from the Department of Family and Protective Services, court documents say. Two days later, a child protective services investigator visited the family’s home, court documents say, and interviewed both parents. They also interviewed Mary Doe separately from her parents.
The family is now living in “constant fear,” court documents say. Jane Doe is unable to sleep, and Mary, who is typically joyful, is now moody, stressed and overwhelmed.

    continues....

You don’t think it is also a fear tactic to have a tweet that says ALL trans families will be investigators and prosecuted? And says teachers are required to report ALL trans children? And then later encourages trans people to leave Texas. Spreading that misinformation is as much of a fear traffic as anything I’ve seen.

Some people are okay with misinformation as long as they wish it were true.
It should matter that the topic of this thread started with 2 lies. Even if you disagree with what the bill actually says. It still matters to not drastically expand on what the bill says.
It matters because a discussion is pointless, if not impossible, if we can’t acknowledge the facts out in front of us. To dismiss pointing out blatant misinformation as irrelevant and continue to defend false statements doesn’t lead to anything.
Someone like me could actually benefit from a real discussion. I’m not well read on this topic, I don’t know what the harm and benefits are for different procedures at different ages. I don’t know how many, trans kids have suffered emotionally because they didn’t get the right treatment or how many, if any, suffered because they got treatment too early before the were mentally developed. There are so many things about this topic that I don’t know and would appreciate an actual conversation. But I can tell you I don’t care to have it here now because it s clear not many care about a genuine conversation. Good job, but how exactly did the trans kids benefit from that?

Manage your expectations for genuine responses. I was asked for my opinion on this, but got no feedback whatsoever for my response…so why bother?  I think “some” people just want someone to take their aggression out on, instead of having an actual discussion.
I agree with you, though.  If you are trying to spread awareness, do not make false accusations.  It undermines the whole cause in my opinion.

Of course it's a fear tactic. Just like the ridiculous abortion law in Texas. The politicians want to sow fear to get what they want.....votes and dollars.

There’s soooo much information out there regarding new state laws (like those in Texas) that are causing a significant increase in teen suicide.  Teen suicide was at its highest when FF was in office.  Then it got better and then along comes Texas and other states with increased suicides because of their new laws.

There’s really no need to discuss anything with anyone who supports these new laws.  Transgender decisions are for parents and their children to discuss with their physicians and make decisions.  How dare any individual, especially a bunch of scum bag politicians, make any law or decisions regarding this subject.  This is just another way for the whites to take back “their” country.

Why don’t you answer this, why are you people so hell bent on throwing us backwards regarding peoples rights?  Why is it that only people like you deserve to live their lives the way you and yours think it should be lived?  You all want to fight for the right to spread a disease by not being vaccinated but fuck the rest of us and our choices, right?

Take yourself to a child’s clinic or hospital that deals with transgender youth and find out your information directly from them, if you can handle it.  I think we’re all sick and tired of playing games with people like you thinking you have the right to judge anyone.

And finally, how dare you talk about telling lies.  Didn’t you vote (probably both times) for the biggest liar in American history?  How can anyone have a serious conversation with you when you’re clearly on the side of white supremacy?

    Wow.

Your attack on mace seems a little harsh and directly against posting guidelines here…..
As to the bolded, here are actual guidelines for the medical community on the subject:
    https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/102/11/3869/4157558?login=false

I do agree with you that politicians should keep their noses out of the situation and laws should not be created unless certain treatments are deemed/proven unsafe by the medical community.  Also, treatments should not be backed by lawmakers and politicians unless proven safe.

Please show me any post where I was against masks or vaccines.
Please show me any post where I was against people’s rights. I simply pointed out the information given was false and said let’s have a conversation starting with the facts.
Actually, I don’t care if you do. I don’t care to respond to someone who is clearly irrational and jumps to so many conclusions about things I’ve never said and calls me a white supremicist simply for pointing out false information.
