    Its actually more like, where did they get the weapon and who made the weapon? The problem at hand is how to we prevent more murders going forward and how do we get people to change their thought that murder by this weapon or similar weapons is a very big deal and we need to do whatever to prevent it. 

    but to recap: We have to acquire all this information with help from Beijing, who are not reliable narrators in this. to stick with your analogy, they are gonna be the mobsters who won't talk to the cops to give a full story. So you're gonna run in circles while this other problem above is still happening.

    One last clarification. My original post was that its not important. Not that investigators needn't do it. I just think its a waste of time because no one will face any consequences for it and we have executable mitigation of processes for the 2 prominent theories we have as to the reasons for its spread.

    My personal rule of thumb is, if someone has more training, study or knowledge on a subject than I do, I generally defer to that experience and am devoid of the ego that maybe I still know better despite my lack of knowledge training or study.

    Maybe it’s a language thing. Are you asking how is science defined (Wikipedia has a great explainer) and why do we think American scientists are superior than other countries scientists (we don’t)?

    Are you one of those people who still believes that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? I know a couple of people who were still insisting this even after George W. Bush acknowledged that they didn't have them. No matter how much evidence points in the direction of zoonotic origin, you'll insist you were right that it was leaked from a lab, in the absence of any proof to support that theory.
