Am I the only 10,000 Maniacs fan around?  I still love them to this day.  Upon reflection, they are my favorite along with the Pretenders.

OMG, yes!  How could I forget?
Every now an then, a Natalie Merchant or 10,000 Maniacs song will get played in the supermarket I go to and when I hear that magical voice and when no one is looking I call out, "NATALIE!" like the guy in the audience on the live album.
When I first learned about them and heard that they were from Chautauqua, NY, where I lived for a few years in the 70's (before they formed), I quickly became a fan.
    Good call, M!
Magical is the right word for her voice.

And yeah the Unplugged cd is so good.  I really wish that would be released on vinyl.
    For sure!

At some point, I will likely have to vote for Eurythmics which is too bad because even though I'm not a big fan, I really like Annie and Dave's earlier band The Tourists.  Luminous Basement is an excellent album!

Saw them on late night show. Bad timing? An off day? Wasn't impressed.

Hard call.  David Roback was as much a leader as Hope Sandoval.  Kind of the same situation as with Opal's Roback/ Kendra Smith.

    Where's Blondie or Fleetwood Mac?
I wish I was a sacrifice, but somehow still lived on.

If you voted for Dead Weather you need to check their discography. Pure talent. Great live act.
To me it’s a side project/ supergroup type of thing.

if she isn’t on the list as part of her main band then she shouldn’t be as a member of a side project

I wouldn’t vote for audioslave in a similar poll for the same reason as soundgarden should be the basis for comparison  for Chris Cornell

Maybe retry then when you have better timing, and you are on an on day?

I haven’t voted for them yet but only because there are some truly awful acts here. Despite how cool they are and then fact JW’s presence is more subdued, he’s still the main attraction and creative force.

missed the first round. Amy Lee was an easy choice this round though.

I admittedly checked them out because of his name, but by far I do not find him the main attraction after listening to them. and creative force? really? I thought they all wrote semi-equally in that band?

    That’s what I think

as a casual listener it sounds a lot like Jack White material with a different singer. I tend to think the sound is largely influenced by Jack.  Doesn’t make them bad, I just don’t see anything particularly different about them.  it’s probably like van halen with Hagar. It’s basically  the same thing for most people but I suppose to others it an entirely different band.

Isn't it the same with Trent Reznor and his wife band. Still sounds like NIN but with a woman singing.

Allison gets a ton of writing credits for DW.  At least for Horehound, she wrote or co-wrote every song if I recall.  I looked on Discogs but there are no writing credits on there.  Although even with the writing credits, you can certainly feel the heavy hand of JW on their music.

on Dodge and Burn, Jack has a co-write on 8 of the 12 tracks, all being co writes. Only one being him and one other writer, 3 with two co writers, the rest is the whole band.
