Im going to invent a vending machine that dispenses tubes. Tubes with rolled t shirts, tubes with posters. Self service band merch, thats the future. Just need to figure out how to get a record into a tube...hmm flexi discs.
It happens at other events too. Some local dirt tracks will charge a fee to drivers who want to sell merchandise at the track. Some have trailers set up outside the gate, but most just have tables set up with a girlfriend or wife selling the stuff.
I was working at a show that was to be headlined by Alien Ant Farm. HED PE was playing before them. AAF packed up their gear and left during HED PE’s set due to a dispute with the venue over merch sales. The venue claimed the venue’s cut was in the contract, the band argued it was too much or not what they agreed to.

Yep, Silver crown races the drivers go to their hauler and pull out a clothes rack and start selling!

In a round-about way, ticket prices would be higher if the venue didn't take a cut of merch sales. Venues makes most of their money on concessions, parking and merch sales, so if those are lower, they have to charge a higher rental fee, which would cause ticket prices to go up.
In some rare cases, certain artists get 100% of total ticket sales because the venue makes so much on parking/concessions & merch.

The only bad part about that is that most fans don’t make it to pits, so they are losing a chance to sell more shirts. I know when our kids were little we very rarely went to the pits afterwards due to how late it was. I realize that tracks have to make money to stay open, but I would rather spend a little bit more on food rather than have the racers potentially make less.

Wonderful idea. Though ...
