I hadn't noticed they were doing so well. I would never have even thought of Heart being the best female fronted band, but now that I think of it, I guess they were pretty big mega-stars in the 80's. They certainly were on the radio a lot. Never got into their music, myself.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Would Fleetwood Mac fit in this category? I know Stevie Nicks joined the band later and not sure if she is considered to front the band.
Yea, I thought about them. I know Stevie and Christine McVie did a lot, but so did Lindsey Buckingham so that is why I pretty much left them off the list.
Evanescence and Paramore are two I would put in top 5. One album by Paramore is fantastic, one of my favorites from whatever year it came out. Lol...these are funny to see.
Too poppy 'for' me. That Misery Business song is just dreadful. I thought it was Avril Lavigne the first time I heard it.
I don't share your opinion. Just listened to Misery Business again and I dig it. Yes, there is a woman singing....yes, she is singing about revenge on another chick. If you take out the singing and just listen to the music? (I like the singing ...that gal can sing the shit out of it, she has go be in the top tier of voices I like.).
That music is badass. It rocks. I can easily say I like the music from Misery Business more than almost every song on Gigaton, as much as I love Pearl Jam.
I would not include Fleetwood Mac because they started out as an all male band led by Peter Green and later led by Mick Fleetwood. Jefferson Airplane was started by Marty Balin and Paul Kantner and had two female singers, Signe Toly Anderson and Gace Slick, both of whom were considered co-lead singers with Balin, so it would be a stretch to refer to them as a female led band. Two "all-girl" bands, The Bangles and Go Go's would for sure fit the category.

Was Jefferson Airplane ever considered for this poll? They have a few good classic songs that everyone seems to know.
Yea, they were on my short list, just wanted to stay a little more current with the groups.
I think you're going to have to cough up the long list this time, MedozK. Give us a list of every female band, every genre, every country...so we know that you were thorough in your consideration. Thank you in advance.

Only problem is, this forum format only allows so many options for poll. And MK's knowledge of music is about as vast as anyone we've seen on these forums.
I will say though, for fun it would have been interesting to include the often unjustly maligned The Shaggs. Rolling Stone described them as sounding like "lobotomized Trapp Family singers". Years later, they "rediscovered" by Frank Zappa and others who saw their music as being far more complex with "melodic lines and structures to the freed jazz compositions of Ornette Coleman". Interesting stuff worth checking out!

S'ok, different strokes for different folks.
Gigaton is a steamy pile to me as well as Misery business... That era of pop punk metal, whatever you call it was not my thing at all. I went two ways, harder and indy. Bands like LCD, Matt & Kim, Dillinger, Killswitch were on heavy rotation. That whole EMO movement was just bad to me. Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects and Panic at the Disco being the outliers for me. Those bands moved the needle.
You mention the music. Some of the bands had their moments and parts of songs had awesome music. Not everything though.

I've been feeling shitty lately, so I've been sticking with my comfort bands/artists lately. Today, it's Tori Amos. Maybe when I feel more experimental I will give them a try.

Sorry to hear that @OffSheGoes35. I hope you feel better soon. I know I also have bands that make me feel better when I listen to them. BTW - Tori Amos is awesome!!

What I'm going to love about this poll is that the Pretenders are destined to win. First, they're awesome. Second, Chrissy is from Cleveland. Third, and most importantly, she is literally the female Tom Petty, who is fresh off his US win. Perfect transition by Kev.
