Records, CDs, books, tape (cassette, 8 track ) can be mailed as media mail. It is the cheapest way to ship. A 1lb package costs $3.19, 2lb $3.84 and so on. The cost is the same to anywhere in the 50 states. Whereas priority mail costs are calculated on weight and distance.
The “everything is expensive now” argument would be more valid if 10C just started gouging us for shipping prices. But they’ve been doing it for years.
I don’t get why people bring up the price of the item as a reason to complain about the price of shipping. Just because something isn’t expensive doesn’t mean it ships for less.
Because people don't think of reasonable shipping rates at a standalone cost but rather consider it proportionate to the price of the goods bought and therefore as a percentage of the total order. When there is no other option to get it than by mail (as I'm assuming the deluxe is) then even more thought is given to it I guess.
Stars are suns to other people.

This makes sense.
If you're charging for something based on distance from one corner of a giant-ass country, of course it's gonna cost a lot.
On a slow day, 10C probably gets 200 orders per day. Add a "hot ticket item" to the mix and that 200 probably can be 2500 or more.
It'd be nice if they had an east coast warehouse, but that's not gonna happen.
Mail Innovations definitely makes it easier on their side because they can get more out quicker and not have to worry too much about regulations. If they had media mail and someone wanted a CD and a shirt, they'd be effed.
They *should* do a media mail or "first class" or whatever as an option. Give a disclaimer about "more expensive options include safer boxes" or whatever. Make it so that media mail wouldn't be an option if any non-qualifying item was included in the order.
I've seen records shipped from eBay using nothing but newspaper as padding and triple-ply cardboard with duct tape to hold it together. The grand total is like $5 shipping. The problem here? It's great for eBay for random crap from the 60s, but 10C knows people would throw a fit if the tiniest little ding occurred.
