I was thinking about Release too, such a beautiful and powerful song.7/2/06 - Denver, CO

I would definitely say Off He Goes
Know a man
His face seemed pulled and tense
Like he's ridin' on a motorbike
In the strongest winds
So I approach with tact
Suggest that he should relax
But he's always movin' much too fast
Said he'll see me on the flip side
On this trip he's taken for a ride
He's been takin' too much on
There he goes with his perfectly unkept clothes
There he goes
He's yet to come back
But I've seen his picture
It doesn't look the same up on the rack
We go way back
I wonder 'bout his insides
It's like his thoughts are too big for his size
He's been taken...where, I don't know
Off he goes with his perfectly unkept clothes
There he goes
And now I rub my eyes, for he has returned
It seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned
For he still smiles... And he's still strong
Nothing's changed but the surroundin' bullshit
That has grown
And now he's home and we're laughin'
Like we always did, my same old, same old friend
Until a quarter to ten
I saw the strain creep in
He seems distracted and I know just what is going to happen next
Before his first step, he's off again
Believe it or not, it was my friends wedding song (which I found very weird!!)!!!Shows: * Jones Beach Music Theatre - Aug 24, 2000 * Madison Square Garden - Jul 09, 2003 * PNC Bank Arts Center - Jul 14, 2003 * Continental Arena - Jun 01, 2006 * Susquehanna Bank Center - Jun 20, 2008 * Madison Square Garden - Jun 25, 2008 * Philadelphia Spectrum - Oct 27, 2009 * Philadelphia Spectrum - Oct 28, 2009 * Philadelphia Spectrum - Oct 30, 2009 * Philadelphia Spectrum - Oct 31, 2009 * The Prudential Center - May 18, 2010 * Madison Square Garden - May 20, 2010 * Madison Square Garden - May 21, 2010 * Philadelphia, PA Made in America Sept 2, 2012 * Barclays Center - Oct 19, 2013 * Barclays Center - Oct 20, 2013

Yah, I saw a version of Off He Goes on you tube or something and he said, "Here is a song about being friends with an asshole." Then he waited a few seconds and said, "me." It went something like that.0 -

Now I have heard a few different things about who eddie is talking about in 'off he goes' but would love to know the truth! Dont give me a hard time about this but I read a comment on youtube and the guy said the song was about Kurt Cobain and that Eddie wrote it a week after kurt died! I guess i can see how he had perfect unkept clothes and he always had a strain on his face but last i remember they didnt like eachother so what do you think?0 -

I always thought that this song was about Jack Irons, struggling with his bipolar disorder, but what do I know...
And the song(s) that best describe Eddie? I would say the whole catalogue. (The songs he penned.) He wrote the damn things. There should be something autobiographical in there, even unintended.0 -

The End-
What were all those dreams we shared
Those many years ago?
What were all those plans we made
Now left beside the road?
It's my fault now
Having caught a sickness in my bones
How it pains to leave you here
With the kids on your own
Just don't let me go.
To me, this is about Eddie being away from his family while on the road and working. He feels bad that his woman is home with the kids and is urging her to hold on to their shared dreams. It's like his love song to Jill.
This is a song that I can relate to personally. I am a stay at home mom to 2 little girls and my man works around the clock. We are each kind of on our own path right now but we have dreams and goals for our family's future . . .in the meantime 'Just don't let me go'.0 -

I feel Eddie writes his songs from others perspectives often. The songs are not always about his own personal experience but what he would feel if it were him. This a sign of a very talented insightful writer.
I think he has lost people in his life now and imagines through his words what he would be feeling if it were him leaving this world.
This is also very good for his audience because there are people out there who are facing leaving.
His pleading in the song brings emotion that can be related too, making it very real.
It is the single hardest thing we all face and I think he is singing to us about it.
When I face this I want his voice and his words near, in The End.0 -
my friend texted me yesterday, "i've had pandora's eddie vedder channel on all day and haven't heard one vedder song"
