I'm having my "black" days right now..just got told by a girl that i love more than anything that she needs time away from me. This is the worst feeling, and I keep playing the song time after time. I honestly dont think I ever fully understood the deep pain behind the song until now. This is complete hell right now.0

I always wonder if it could be (partial) about the child that would be a grown up right now if she(?) had not been aborted........or am i way off?i'm not happy yet.....0

I cannot help but to wonder if the woman from "Black" was Irish? ....and he wouldn't be the first guy to fall in love with a cute Irish lass! I did once.Dalai Lama—To say that humility is an essential ingredient in our pursuit of spiritual transformation may seem to be at odds with what I have said about the need for confidence. Igottago,
Please know that in your pain, and in your new understanding of "Black," you have become a member of a global community. As you weep, we all do. We weep for what was, and what may never be.
You're not alone in that hurt....You're not alone.

Hey man, I have noticed the same things over the past few years and I feel better with confirmation. The end of the song through tags is not so tragic any longer, more of an "I am moving on" vibe.
I always felt that it must be kinda strange for his wife to hear him sing a song that rips his heart out about a past soulmate. All that's sacred, comes from youth....dedications, naive and true.0 -

Actually, I think that he's single......he was married (once), but not anymore.
...but you are right....the Madrid 2007 tag shows that he's putting it behind him.
...and we all wish him the best with that.

yes, my bad. his girlfriend and babys momma is what I meant to say. I put myself in her shoes, and to hear my wife sing her ass off so emotionally about a past romance would bug me a bit...All that's sacred, comes from youth....dedications, naive and true.0

...and I agree....it might leave me feeling a bit like a 2nd class citizen if my wife sang her heart out about how much she pined for "him."
...that would sting a bit....

Cool Thread, and to a beauty of a song.
I didn't realize that the newer tags showing up are giving us different angles of the song, as it's played out today. Interesting read.
In the end I think the song can be taken from many angles and my guess is that it's not just one view of one loss. This is why it relates so well. IMO************************************************************************

...glad to help out. We all have our own "Black" in our history.....but it's no less painful. If it is any consolation at all, you are not alone with this.
Keep your chin up, and hold your head up...give yourself permission to be human.

...seem to act as an emotional thermometer...it shows a slow cooling of the pain felt by the Narrator in "Black." They seem to show a pattern over time.
....but that's just my spin....

I have always thought when EV is saying this tag he is sending a messages to him, whoever black is about, us etc.
I enjoyed writing it....looking at the tags only deepens the mystery.Dalai Lama—To say that humility is an essential ingredient in our pursuit of spiritual transformation may seem to be at odds with what I have said about the need for confidence. Studying the tags like this seems a bit like analyzing someone's diary. Maybe it's a bit invasive?&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0

Agreed. Thinking about a song's interpretation and how the lyrics resonate with someone personally is a very nice thing.
But imagining how the lyrics and the changing tags connect to the personal and emotional state of the writer and posting your results on a message board is indeed creepy. "What's Ed's emotional state? Is he single? Is he singing about an Irish woman? What's really going on in his life?"
Yeah, invasive. Maybe you can wonder about Ed's personal life, but why would you want to?
Posting what you think about his personal life and emotional state based on a song tag is definitely invasive. It's going over the top. And irrelevant. When you're married, you'll understand the importance of fresh produce.0
