"I'll decide...take the dive...take my time, not my life...wait for signs...believe in lies...to get by...it's divine...whoa...oh, you know what it's like..." (Tremor Christ)

"All that's sacred comes from youth/dedication, naive and true/with no power, nothing to do/I still remember, why don't you...don't you" (Not for you)

"Up here so high the boughs they break/up here so high the sky I scrape/had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse of my innocence... got back my inner sense.../baby got it, still got it" (In My Tree)

"Like a cloud dropping rain/I'm discarding all thought/I'll dry up, leaving puddles on the ground/I'm like an opening band for the sun" (Push me Pull me)
Let's say knowledge is a tree, yeah.
It's growing up just like me.

off the top of my head...

the beginnings of Corduroy and Sad
The part of Not for you where ed sings "my friends call me..."
and the part of daughter right after "rise aboooove"
Oh, and the first part of Leash... sublime :)
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

Agree with you, the beginnings of Corduroy and Sad are incredible. And I love the beggining of Breath as well.

  • "I'll swallow poison, until I grow immune
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room"

    The best "part" ever...
    (INDIFFERENCE)
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room!
  • Well I like that little growl in "Go" (studio) right before the studio.

And also when Eddie sings "Your one!" in Hail, Hail from Live on Two Legs.
    Stone Gossard...riffmeister extraordinaire!

I am a man, I am advanced.....I am the first man to borrow Stone's leather pants!

I'd like to third that comment about Sad and Corduroy!

But one part I always liked was that part on Go that Eddie sings "Suppose I abused you". He sings it out of nowhere, lyrically its random as hell, but it sounds so awesome all at once!

I simply love the lyrics to "save you" especially
"You helped me when I was down,... I'll help when you're down
Why are you hitting yourself?... c'mon hit me instead"..........that is friendship!

the opening guitar solo to "alive."
my reaction was "what the hell was that?", but in a good way.
"Don't let the darkness eat you up..."

the whole of insignificance has some goosebump appeal for me. surprised they didn't play it more this past tour.

the alive drum fill that dave used to do in the second verse in the "she said i'm ready...ready for you" line.

the "swell" to sleight of hand...heard this live in cincy in 2000 and the atmosphere with that swell with the breeze and summer smell just was awesome. every time i hear that i go back to that moment

"I just want to scream hello"

    opening riff of alive

    and GTF
And he still gives his love, he just gives it away
The love he receives is the love that is saved
And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky
A human being that was given to fly

That up and down guitar part at the end of sad is really cool.

The closing line to Last Kiss is awesome as well.

The "Fuck You!" in Not For You. The best.

So many to choose from!!!! But a more obvious one.....

Even to this day, the intro of Corduroy (studio version) can still send shivers down my spine.

The way it slowly builds, guitars getting louder and louder, then bam!

    The waiting drove me mad........

I love cranking this song up in my car

Note... This song holds a special place in my heart, it was the first PJ song I heard live, back in '95 in Melbourne at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. To be young again!!!.....and have hair :(

That's my husbands favorite part too. He sings it really well - lol. I love how in some concerts it takes on a life of it's own. :)
    Great question btw. :)

Can he sing it as well as Eddie tho?
I love your signature by the way.

the bridge in "hail, hail" (...i sometimes realize.......)

"if i dont fall apart......." in 'come back'

    ALL of "save you"

"a chin of stone, a heart of clay" from 'parting ways'

"there's a light when my baby's in my arms......."

"things were different then....." - the closing bridge in 'hard to imagine'

.....along with about 3,984 more (countless actually!)

    good topic!

I have many favourites lyrics, i must say. But everytime i listen to "Parachutes", i just Shiver and Shake. Specially the part in the song, when Eddie sings:

"Heaven knows if there´s a ceiling
Come so low with the Kneeling
    Please know that
    I Got

    All the friends i´m needing
    Before my Light goes out
As the doors are closing now

And Far away will be my home
and to grasp this, i don´t know
    and i dont need"

I have always loved Eddies voice, but speciel in this song, i just Love it...
Never been to any PJ gig, but i would give my right leg and arm, too see them. Well, it´s not truth, BTW. Many years ago, i saw them, with Mr. Neil Young. An awsome gig, but i surely missed Eddie... We all did that night:-(
    ...Immortality, is that good?

hail, hail the lucky ones, i refer to those in love
    (in here)
swore i'd love you till the day i die, and beyond..

Little drum part from Matt. AWESOME.

that bit in Sometimes when Ed does the long ending to
    "Large fingers pushing painnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.......t"

    i love that bit
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

God I love that part, it completes the song. The first thing that came to my mind was "fuck it" in mfc. Every time I hear that live, I always look for that.

the start of Go, when the guitar kicks in after the bass intro

when they play Its Ok or that bit of rockin in the free world at the end of Daughter live

all the bits of Given to Fly that everyone else mentioned

    Crazy Mary solo....

    So many.

"Once" (studio), the beginning of the song... after the intro.

"Jeremy", the "try to forget this, try to erase this" part, and the following...

"Wash", the "bring it back" part...

    "Animal", the riff...

"Last Exit", after "Let the ocean dissolve 'way my past...Four days, and not much longer...", the guitar part and then the way Ed sings "let my spirit pass"...

"Rats"... "Ben the two of us" part

    "Immortality", the lead guitar...

"Present tense", the second and higher "you can spend your time alone..." and all the following part, especially when the drums come in.

    And one of my favourite...

"1/2 full" (I don't undestand why many people don't like this song, I love it, especially live). The "won't someone save the world" part, how the music seems to explode after this point and Ed sings "woooooorld".
