was Stone playing bass on DOTC? I couldn't tell during the show.

Back
home, rested, and with some coffee. Loving these fanviews! Figured I'd share.
I
started a SHN opener prediction thread, assuming/hoping it would be The Long
Road. Seemed to be a fitting choice, after the last couple of years. And yet, I
couldn't help but smile when DotC came on. This was the band being defiant of
not only our shared fear & hopelessness, but of what is expected of them.
The
term "festival set" gets tossed around often, but this was hardly
that. Here's 3 songs from our new album. We've been itching to play them, we
hope you like how they translate on stage, and even if you're a sour-puss about
it, you got to see them first. The bonus? They freakin' ROCKED. Eddie once said
how sometimes this band can be like surfing on waves: starting slow, rising up,
and accelerating (and hold on). DotC set the tempo. "Save your
predictions! Burn your assumptions!"
And
then we start the ride with Quick Escape. PJ never forgot where they came from,
and who helped pave the way. QE is like trekking to Kashmir by way of Neil
Young's handcart on a rusty train track. And if you say that you didn't love
that one-two punch, you will. Eventually.

The
band threw ANOTHER curve ball by going right into Seven O'Clock. I thought it
was the strongest of the 3, but we're comparing prime cuts here. I do think
it's gonna be a great 1st set closer. I definitely has an epic feel to it.
Might as well have the closing credits of the human race playing in the
background.
I
joked once or twice that the band should just play all of Gigaton & get it
out of the way, before Eddie says "Good Evening. We've been meaning to get
that out of our system. It's good to see you." Then launch into Corduroy,
or Small Town. Which is pretty much what happened. It's almost as if the band
opened for themselves.
Corduroy
(along with Even Flow & Given to Fly) sounded as close to the album as I've
heard in years, as far as speed goes, yet still having those live PJ flourishes
we all love. Haven't heard E Flow like this since the Ten Philly show, or
older. And GTE went all the way back to '98. The whole band was on fire, but
Mike in particular was on God-level. The secret weapon, unleashed once more.
Present
Tense making an early appearance was also symbolic of the band to enjoy
"right now". For everything we've been though, they remind us to
enjoy this moment, and every moment afterward.

Never
Destination was fantastic! I'm so glad the band was confident enough to
sprinkle in at least 6 songs from Gigaton. They know who was there. The wildly
fluctuating ticket prices, the effort it takes to even GET to Asbury Park if
you don't live there... this was a mix-tape of new & old, designed to (at
the very least) whet our collective whistle.
I'd
like to thank Eddie, the band, and the crew for being aware & cautious
during Wishlist. They don't need to explain why, and we don't need to question
them. If you are TRULY a fan of this band, if they ever stop a song out of concern, or refuse
to play 'til some idiots calm down, we have to respect that. If you don't, I'll
gladly buy all your merch for cheap. Go enjoy Kid Rock, or some claptrap.
Didn't
know Eddie & Norm Macdonald were buds, but I can see it. I've always loved Norm. And Charlie Watts WAS The Rolling Stones. Loved the Waiting
on a Friend tag. Superblood Wolfmoon brought the wave back, and had people
dancing. It took time to grow on me when the album came out, but now I love
it.
Red
Mosquito had more blues than ever. Add Jack White, and people might've passed
out. Personally, I thought Danny ripped here. Harder than he did on that last
version he guested on. Dude was on fire all night (Ocean Ave. Stomp! more on that in another post... be glad you went, if you did!)

I
forgot to mention it earlier, but Daughter also felt very much like it came
from the '94 tour. Speed was just right, whole band was on point. I've never
gotten W.M.A. by itself live, but if this is as close as I ever get, I'm
satisfied. Damning, that it's still so relevant today.
Take
the Long Way was unexpected! It came out great, I would just work on the
ending. I think that was around the time they called an audible on Retrograde,
and fast-forwarded to Small Town. Totally fine. It's been 3 years guys. You're
allowed to be loose. We all knew Small Town was happening, and we're all glad
it did.
Don't
get me wrong, I love DTE. Here's the church, we sing in a choir. But I'm glad
it was left for another day. That might've been the catalyst for it actually
becoming a festival set, for me. SOLAT was a nice surprise. They've been
playing it for 30 years, but it still sounds as raw as it ever did.
Some
would argue "Hey, Better Man is way poppier & mainstream!" but I
don't need to defend how electric a crowd becomes with it. People Have the Power put it over the top. Patti must've been smiling from behind the stage.

I
LOVE the modern intro to Porch, but it was nice to see Ed just go INTO it. I
don't know if it was for time, or just to keep the energy going, but Porch is
ALWAYS a crowd pleaser, new & old. There was a middle tonight, and in there
you found a love for this band, and feeling like things were almost back to
normal for a little while.
I
know everyone was hoping/praying/wishing for Bruce to pop up for My City of
Ruins, but he didn't need to. His specter was everywhere, even if he was just
down the road having a beer. Or a shot of tequila. Shout out to those amazing
singers, who won't be local for long! And if they are, New Jersey & the
tri-state area will be all the richer.
Kinda
bummed we didn't get River Cross, but I get it: timing. Besides, gotta get
people to Ohana, right? I have a feeling all of Gigaton will be represented by
the time the Encore shows are through.
If
you didn't want to hear Alive by this point, I don't know what to tell you. The
song is a part of Americana now. Appreciate it. Celebrate it. Love it. After
that, it was only gonna go one of two ways: Baba, or Rockin'. Wisely, the
latter prevailed. Because what they were doing all night, was also what
they were asking of us to do:
keep on Rockin' in the Free World.

Agree 100% with the bolded about Alive. Alive still gets me ever time. It's life affirming to me. To get to sing 'i'm still alive' with good friends and family around. Doesn't get any better than that to me. Yea it's corny, but I still love the emotion of singing it. I just wish they would put it more in the front of the set list sometimes.
Thank you, and that's a hell of a concert notch list on your belt!

SHN was my 11th! I have now matched the studio album output, lol. At Ohana Encore, I will finally surpass it!

I
LOVE the modern intro to Porch, but it was nice to see Ed just go INTO it. I
don't know if it was for time, or just to keep the energy going, but Porch is
ALWAYS a crowd pleaser, new & old.
Lyric change in Seven O’clock: “Then we had Sitting Bullshit as our former fucking President.”
Ed did well with all Gigaton lyrics except for Never Destination. Later verses got mixed up and one ended in “na na na na na” for lack of any lyrics. 😂

I’m vaccinated so here is hoping that if this is COVID (test pending today) that it’s not so bad nor do I spread it to my immune-compromised wife!
We talked about it and figured since it was vax or negative test and outdoors that it wasn’t a bad bet.
Of course, I could have gotten it elsewhere in which case I will feel AWFUL if I spread it at the show, unknowingly.
It’s really difficult to make these choices today in the current state of affairs. I don’t envy the band in the choices they make. There’s a risk with everything right now and you can’t live in a hole but you also can’t just go wild.
Brutal. But definitely a phenomenal show.

Sorry to hear this. I hope you feel better. I definitely had a little concern when I got home and really thought about being right in the middle of that crowd with everyone singing and screaming. But so far, I feel good. I hope your test is negative, and you have a speedy recovery.

Back home, rested, and with some coffee. Loving these fanviews! Figured I'd share.
I started a SHN opener prediction thread, assuming/hoping it would be The Long Road. Seemed to be a fitting choice, after the last couple of years. And yet, I couldn't help but smile when DotC came on. This was the band being defiant of not only our shared fear & hopelessness, but of what is expected of them.
The term "festival set" gets tossed around often, but this was hardly that. Here's 3 songs from our new album. We've been itching to play them, we hope you like how they translate on stage, and even if you're a sour-puss about it, you got to see them first. The bonus? They freakin' ROCKED. Eddie once said how sometimes this band can be like surfing on waves: starting slow, rising up, and accelerating (and hold on). DotC set the tempo. "Save your predictions! Burn your assumptions!"
And then we start the ride with Quick Escape. PJ never forgot where they came from, and who helped pave the way. QE is like trekking to Kashmir by way of Neil Young's handcart on a rusty train track. And if you say that you didn't love that one-two punch, you will. Eventually.
Song Wishlist: Oceans, Brother, Alone, Let Me Sleep, full W.M.A., Hold On, Bugs/all of Vitalogy, Gremmie Out Of Control (BAM!), Mankind, Around The Bend (full band), Whale Song (DOUBLE BAM!), The Long Road, Don't Gimme No Lip, Pilate, Push Me Pull Me, All Those Yesterdays, Rival, Parting Ways, Ghost, Bu$hleaguer, WWS, Parachutes, Army Reserve, low octave Driftin', Strangest Tribe, Other Side, Undone, Fatal, Hitchhiker, Education, Black Red Yellow, Of the Earth, Love Reign O'er Me, Gonna See My Friend, Amongst the Waves, Santa Cruz, Infallible, Yellow Moon, Alright, Comes Then Goes, Got to Give, and the Mamasan Trilogy.
The band threw ANOTHER curve ball by going right into Seven O'Clock. I thought it was the strongest of the 3, but we're comparing prime cuts here. I do think it's gonna be a great 1st set closer. I definitely has an epic feel to it. Might as well have the closing credits of the human race playing in the background.
I joked once or twice that the band should just play all of Gigaton & get it out of the way, before Eddie says "Good Evening. We've been meaning to get that out of our system. It's good to see you." Then launch into Corduroy, or Small Town. Which is pretty much what happened. It's almost as if the band opened for themselves.
Corduroy (along with Even Flow & Given to Fly) sounded as close to the album as I've heard in years, as far as speed goes, yet still having those live PJ flourishes we all love. Haven't heard E Flow like this since the Ten Philly show, or older. And GTE went all the way back to '98. The whole band was on fire, but Mike in particular was on God-level. The secret weapon, unleashed once more.
Present Tense making an early appearance was also symbolic of the band to enjoy "right now". For everything we've been though, they remind us to enjoy this moment, and every moment afterward.
2/Song Wishlist: Oceans, Brother, Alone, Let Me Sleep, full W.M.A., Hold On, Bugs/all of Vitalogy, Gremmie Out Of Control (BAM!), Mankind, Around The Bend (full band), Whale Song (DOUBLE BAM!), The Long Road, Don't Gimme No Lip, Pilate, Push Me Pull Me, All Those Yesterdays, Rival, Parting Ways, Ghost, Bu$hleaguer, WWS, Parachutes, Army Reserve, low octave Driftin', Strangest Tribe, Other Side, Undone, Fatal, Hitchhiker, Education, Black Red Yellow, Of the Earth, Love Reign O'er Me, Gonna See My Friend, Amongst the Waves, Santa Cruz, Infallible, Yellow Moon, Alright, Comes Then Goes, Got to Give, and the Mamasan Trilogy.
Never Destination was fantastic! I'm so glad the band was confident enough to sprinkle in at least 6 songs from Gigaton. They know who was there. The wildly fluctuating ticket prices, the effort it takes to even GET to Asbury Park if you don't live there... this was a mix-tape of new & old, designed to (at the very least) whet our collective whistle.
I'd like to thank Eddie, the band, and the crew for being aware & cautious during Wishlist. They don't need to explain why, and we don't need to question them. If you are TRULY a fan of this band, if they ever stop a song out of concern, or refuse to play 'til some idiots calm down, we have to respect that. If you don't, I'll gladly buy all your merch for cheap. Go enjoy Kid Rock, or some claptrap.
Didn't know Eddie & Norm Macdonald were buds, but I can see it. I've always loved Norm. And Charlie Watts WAS The Rolling Stones. Loved the Waiting on a Friend tag. Superblood Wolfmoon brought the wave back, and had people dancing. It took time to grow on me when the album came out, but now I love it.
Red Mosquito had more blues than ever. Add Jack White, and people might've passed out. Personally, I thought Danny ripped here. Harder than he did on that last version he guested on. Dude was on fire all night (Ocean Ave. Stomp! more on that in another post... be glad you went, if you did!)3/
Song Wishlist: Oceans, Brother, Alone, Let Me Sleep, full W.M.A., Hold On, Bugs/all of Vitalogy, Gremmie Out Of Control (BAM!), Mankind, Around The Bend (full band), Whale Song (DOUBLE BAM!), The Long Road, Don't Gimme No Lip, Pilate, Push Me Pull Me, All Those Yesterdays, Rival, Parting Ways, Ghost, Bu$hleaguer, WWS, Parachutes, Army Reserve, low octave Driftin', Strangest Tribe, Other Side, Undone, Fatal, Hitchhiker, Education, Black Red Yellow, Of the Earth, Love Reign O'er Me, Gonna See My Friend, Amongst the Waves, Santa Cruz, Infallible, Yellow Moon, Alright, Comes Then Goes, Got to Give, and the Mamasan Trilogy.
I forgot to mention it earlier, but Daughter also felt very much like it came from the '94 tour. Speed was just right, whole band was on point. I've never gotten W.M.A. by itself live, but if this is as close as I ever get, I'm satisfied. Damning, that it's still so relevant today.
Take the Long Way was unexpected! It came out great, I would just work on the ending. I think that was around the time they called an audible on Retrograde, and fast-forwarded to Small Town. Totally fine. It's been 3 years guys. You're allowed to be loose. We all knew Small Town was happening, and we're all glad it did.
Don't get me wrong, I love DTE. Here's the church, we sing in a choir. But I'm glad it was left for another day. That might've been the catalyst for it actually becoming a festival set, for me. SOLAT was a nice surprise. They've been playing it for 30 years, but it still sounds as raw as it ever did.
Some would argue "Hey, Better Man is way poppier & mainstream!" but I don't need to defend how electric a crowd becomes with it. People Have the Power put it over the top. Patti must've been smiling from behind the stage.

It’s really difficult to make these choices today in the current state of affairs. I don’t envy the band in the choices they make. There’s a risk with everything right now and you can’t live in a hole but you also can’t just go wild.
Brutal. But definitely a phenomenal show.
