    Almost feels like a personal anniversary haha. Even though all I’ve ever done is listen. 

    Alive still gets me to this day.

    Porch always does it. Since the beginning just the "what the fuck..." always makes me stop and think about the world. Even when it became predictable in a setlist the jam never got stale and I never jumped the gun for a pee break.

    I used to play the HELL out of the video, because I loved that version so much. Fast forward to 1999, I worked at Virgin Megastore for a hot minute, and ordered the Japanese CD maxi single of Alive just to get that version (but also for I've Got A Feelin' ;)

    Hell yes. Even now when Stone jams the riff for a bit before Eddie starts. First show I ever saw was in 2006 in Boston (night 2). I was 16 and my Dad had to drive me and 2 of my buddies (he also went). He had gone to a Ticketmaster outlet at Macy’s because I didn’t have my license (hence how he drove us to the show). Said the first show sold out instantly but got us tickets to the 2nd. Second to last row in the balcony. We went to Hooters beforehand haha. 

    Anyway, we arrive because it says the show starts at 730. Little do I know that’s the opening band... but it was My Morning Jacket. Before they got out there, Eddie came on stage before a crowd of about only 6,000 and played Porch solo. My first ever PJ live experience. 

    Went to school late the next day bragging how I saw Pearl Jam (while wearing my blue Avocado tour T-shirt).

    14 more shows later; some great friends I’ve come to know. And music that’s touched maybe soul and helped me through a lot of stuff.

    I remember being in middle school, and rock was still trying to shake off the stickiness of hair metal. The dirt rats I was hanging out with were buzzed by Enter Sandman & You Could Be Mine from T2, but slowly over that next year... Chili Peppers, Nirvana, and PJ were up on the same level. What a time!

    Best (and saddest) part about Sean Penn's guest DJ spot - pointing out how relevant that song is STILL today.

    The whole damn album is still relevant! Start to finish. That's timeless. And needed, now more than ever.

    Second - your dad brought you and your buddies to hooters before a PJ concert when you were 16?
    What a story.  Imagine that was about a perfect day for 16.

    Haha yup. And the guys behind us at the show lit up joints right as Severed Hand started. I think I was second hand high about a half hour in. I remember being like “would everyone shut the fuck and stop singing every goddamn word to every song. I can’t hear Eddie!”  Now I myself lose my voice after every show.

    I can remember first hearing Alive on college radio that summer. I was so into metal guitar at the time, and hearing this stopped me in my tracks! That ending guitar solo was so intense - then getting the CD (remember the CD long boxes they used to come in?) and being COMPLETELY blown away by every single song.

    I was hooked, and it opened my ears to lots of new-to-me music (Mother Love Bone, Mudhoney). It's such a ground-breaking album.

    Ever read the article (Guitar World, I think) where Mike says he cribbed the riff from The Doors' Five to One & snuck it in to the outro solo? Wouldn't be the first time he'd borrow classic riffs & made them his own B) he's made his fair share, he's allowed!

    1st weed experience for me was AC/DC's Ballbreaker Tour in '95. My 2nd was my 1st PJ show in West Palm Beach, Night II in '98. Very casual, lol. Loudest PJ crowd? Night I at MSG '16. Eddie almost didn't have to sing. Almost ;)

    Oh yeah....and Ace's solo in "She" was also based on that Door's tune as well. Interesting stuff!
