I'd agree with "Alive". One I haven't seen anyone mention that always makes me focus inward is "I Am Mine". Like Ed said at Gorge I, "no matter what anybody says, you are yours". And Mikey's rift towards the end, for me, is really inspirational.

  • Yellow Ledbetter. It got me through some major "its". Release always calms me down when I'm really pissed off, I love it. But more recently, Hard to Imagine help me a lot. It's just amazing.

First, it was 'Alive'. Then came 'Black' (MTV Unplugged version was one of the biggest "it" moments).
From there to now, there are plenty of "it" moments (Present Tense, Given to Fly, Immortality, Indifference, etc).
Let's say knowledge is a tree, yeah.

This morning wasn't a bad morning at all, kindof grey, a littl chill. A good morning, but when I heard Given to Fly I felt this surge of joy, and all of a sudden a good morning was a stupendous morning!

    Corduroy:
This song removes me from the world and takes me to a place where everything is ok. The opening bars/riffs grant an immediate reprieve from pain of any sort. It's quite phenomenal.

It depends of the "it" that I had to come through... but I just have to say that Pearl Jam are very therapeutic ;) it's their energy, the melody, the voice and that way only eddie has to let it all out... so here is my "survival kit" (lolol) in no particular order:

    Alive
    Black
    Fatal
    Other Side
    Sad
    Hard to Imagine
    Down
    Footsteps
    Wash
    Untitled (Live on 2 Legs)
    Untitled (I'm still here)
    Parachutes
    Come Back
    Alone
    Education
    Bee Girl
    Life Wasted
    Once
    Who you are
    Smile
    Present Tense
    Of he Goes
    Low Light
    Push me Pull Me
    I am Mine
    State of Love and Trust
    RVM
    Sometimes
    In my tree
    Wishlist
    Light Years

and I'm sure there are a lot more... it really depends on the "it"... I just listen to them over, and over, and over again, and sing it outlound and cry (a lot!), and some parts of the lyrics just come to my mind... and finally I am at peace... *sigh* I absolutely ADOREEEE PJ's music... those guys are just amazing! More than words could ever say...
And when everything is just fine in my life, I just listen to Pearl Jam over, over and over again ;P too! eheh

    Release
    Indifference
    Betterman
    Corduroy
    Nothingman
    Long Road
    Nothing as it seems
    Come Back

These are just the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

What ever your "it" was.....what PJ song was there for you.

I am trying to make a CD for a friend of mine that is depressed, and has some very troubling family issues, so I want the opion of the jamily.

    For me:
    Why go
    Alive
    Come Back
    Smile
    Better Man
    Footsteps

Black...it should be at the top of the list.

Is a funny thing, but english is not my mother language (and eddie... hmm... speaks sometimes inside his mustache) so sometimes songs give me goose skin before I seat down and listen to the lyrics...
And this three songs really got me when I needed it. Pearl Jam is not music if you want to scape your problems though... is life soundtrack. If you want or feel like seating at the bottom and dig until the last atom of what is killing you, then go ahead.
What you hear on the radio is normally happy or sad or devastating love songs. I think Pearl Jam is one of very few bands who manage to give music to the thousand other feelings, emotions and experiences we have in life, and that is probablly the reason what I love this band so much.
Fighting fire with fire since world's birth, bumping into the same stone over and over again... and we call this evolution?
  • i'll go slightly outside of pearl jam and say that for me its crown of thorns. regardless of who's singing it, this song just helps me get through those tough times.

i cant pick a song. Its like picking a favorite child. I was turned onto grunge in the early 90's by an older cousin. I saw him at family gatherings as he was about to head to see Pearl Jam and Nirvana and Alice. I dreamed of moving to Seattle.

All of the music of the 90;s was and still is the soundtrack to my life, to my youth.

It was music that was pure and raw.

I was going through it in the 90's and still am. And through it all, Pearl Jam and all the grunge bands have been there for me.
  • I used to not have enough control of my life as I should have. I'm open and corduroy may have had an effect in the end, certainly took a while if they did though.
