Man, no memory of GFIII being nominated. Stupid for sure. LA Confidential was fantastic. A lot of actors in their prime and a few classic ones supporting a solid group. Guy Pearce had a small run around that time. Memento was his best.
Happiness did a much better job making the point that I think American Beauty was trying to make. And it actually made sexualizing minors feel icky rather than something celebratory.
Also, much funnier.
Happiness is such a good film, but so damn disturbing.
Titanic is an overrated movie. There are two far superior choices in Good Will Hunting or LA Confidential. I would have voted for GWH.
Without a doubt.. it's a classic that holds up today.
It's not your fault... that you both think this way.
LA Confidential for the win!
I feel like it's my fault

As a lifelong person in therapy, Good Will Hunting is absolute dog shit! The one redeeming quality it has is that it introduced me to the talents of Minnie Driver. Such a shame she’s just a plot element instead of a character in that film.
I do share the love for L.A. Confidential, and even though I enjoy that film much more than Titanic, I still think that the Oscars got it right that year. The latter film was a marvelous cinematic achievement; the former was a point-and-shoot run-of-the-mill noir detective story.
I'm confused by the poll but Dances with Wolves is one of the best movies ever made, so if I had to pick the best Oscar winner . . .
voting for(or against as the case is) the one you like the least. through a process of elimination we arrive at(supposedly but these people are often wrong) the best film of the 90s

It also has mention of the Fisk HR in the 75 World Series.

Forrest Gump
Fight scene is so bogus in Good Will Hunting. "Hey I'm Will, we went to kindergarten together" Lame!
I liked it the first time I watched it and any time/part thereafter it gets worse.

Cameron's reconstruction of the ship was indeed a marvelous cinematic achievement and he deserves all the accolades for that achievement, but the movie was not the best of the year.

HATED Ghost.
LA Confidential for the win!
If anyone needs proof the Academy is more about politics/who you know than quality, there's exhibit A.
What a piece of garbage that movie was.
Bunch of drunk monkeys with internet access.
