Man of Golden Words: The Biography of Andrew Wood

    Front Cover

    Aurora Sky Publishing, 2022

Scot Barbour, Producer and Director of the documentary film "Malfunkshun - The Andrew Wood Story," brings forth the culmination of decades of research to tell the complete, honest, and heartbreaking life story of Andrew Wood for the first time.Andrew Wood, aka Landrew the Lovechild, singer-songwriter of Seattle's legendary pre-grunge bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone, had always dreamed of stardom. Unfortunately, he died at the age of 24, only two weeks before the release of Mother Love Bone's major-label debut album Apple, falling just short of his goal.As a musician, Andy's music defied categorization, blending 1970's stadium rock with punk, and metal with melodic ballads. As an artist, he was extremely prolific with seemingly limitless potential. As a performer, he blurred the lines between an ego-frontman and an androgynous love god. As a person, he exuded charisma and possessed a childlike demeanor that brought pure and genuine joy to everyone who met him.Andy was, in the end, just a human being who struggled his entire life to understand and love himself. That internal conflict not only made his words and music more poignant and powerful but also led to his demise. As a result, when the grunge rock movement exploded in his wake, Andy's friends made certain that the one performer who had dreamed it all up in the first place was not forgotten. The tribute one-off band and self-titled Temple of the Dog album was born from that, and featured newly world-famous members of Soundgarden, along with survivors of what was once Mother Love Bone, and was now Pearl Jam.

Man of Golden Words - The Biography of Andrew Wood

Scot Barbour, the Producer and Director behind the acclaimed documentary film "Malfunkshun - The Andrew Wood Story," presents the culmination of years of meticulous research in this groundbreaking biography. Delving deep into the life of the legendary singer/songwriter Andrew Wood, readers will embark on an unprecedented journey through Barbour's masterful storytelling. Through a rich tapestry of newsprint articles, vital records, and captivating interviews seamlessly intertwined with Wood's own words and music, Barbour crafts a narrative that transcends traditional biography. Brace yourself to be entranced, enlightened, and deeply moved as you uncover the untold reality of Andrew Wood's extraordinary life and enduring legacy. Andrew Wood, aka Landrew the Lovechild, epitomized the early essence of Seattle's vibrant music scene as the charismatic singer-songwriter of the influential pre-grunge bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. Andy achieved stardom in his own mind, but his tragically premature death at 24, just as Mother Love Bone's major-label debut album Apple was set to launch, prevented him from fully realizing his aspirations. His untimely passing left a void in the music world, depriving it of an artist whose talent and vision had the potential to captivate audiences on a global scale. As a musician, Wood defied easy categorization, seamlessly blending elements of 1970s stadium rock, punk, metal, and melodic ballads into a signature sound that was uniquely his own. His artistic output was prolific, reflecting a boundless creative potential that seemed to know no limits. On stage, he captivated audiences with a magnetic presence that blurred the lines between ego-frontman and androgynous love god, all while exuding a childlike charm that brought joy to everyone who crossed his path. Yet beneath the surface glamour, Wood grappled with inner turmoil, struggling to find self-acceptance and love amidst aspirations of fame and artistic expression. It was this internal conflict that lent a poignant depth to his words and music, infusing them with raw emotion and undeniable power. In the wake of Wood's passing, as the grunge rock movement exploded onto the global stage, his friends and peers ensured that his pioneering spirit and creative vision would not be forgotten. The creation of the tribute band Temple of the Dog and their self-titled album, featuring members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, served as a poignant homage to Wood's enduring legacy, a testament to the enduring impact of a visionary artist whose influence continues to resonate with music lovers around the world.

I haven't yet. Shipping is $25 US to Canada.  Think the last one was shipped by FedEx which I had to pay an additional $25 for customs. Gonna probably wait till it hits Amazon.
