.. there was something in it along the lines of "wise men have said, how one chooses to feel is how one is" though not those exact words obviously. I think it's on the page with the babies... but i can't remember.
I love this song! I finally bought the cd last weekend (it has been a ruff summer) and that song grabbed me. I have experience with aa and recovery through some family members, and that's what it sounds like. I root/cheer for mike McCready! I think he's ok
Underneath this smile lies everything
all my hopes, anger, pride and shame
make yourself a pact, not to shut doors on the past
just for today,... I am free
I will not lose my faith
It's an inside job today
I know this one thing well,...
I used to try and kill love, it was the highest sin
breathing insecurity out and in
Searching hope, I'm shown the way to run straight
pursuing the greater way for all,... human light.
How I choose to feel,... Is how I am.
How I choose to feel,... Is how I am.
I will not lose my faith
It's an inside job today
Holding on, the light of night
On my knees to rise and fix my broken soul
Again.
Let me run into the rain
To be a human light again
Let me run into the rain
To shine a human light today
Life comes from within your heart and desire
Life comes from within my heart and desire
Life comes from within your heart and desire
mike really out did himself with this nugget. i love the slow intro on the cd, with the piano. it's perfectly placed as the last song on the new cd. it's a great song about hope and trying to get through. avocado is a brilliant cd.
Come Back and Inside Job paired together is pure genius.
The intro to Inside Job is just beautiful. There's an underlying tension in the music, and the way the instruments come in one by one just creates this building feeling. It feels like it's summing up the feelings of the whole album, even though Eddie doesn't sing a word. It's breathtaking.

I've been trying to come up with the perfect explanation of exactly what this song means to me, but I can't put it into words. I just feel it... All the emotions hidden behind the music and the lyrics. It's such a beautiful song...
I love it!
Just put a bend in the road, I'm growing tired of straight lines...
Be proud of who you are, where you came from, who you have become...
Healing ourselves...Give attention to our mind, body and soul because it needs it and it needs to be appreciated...Be true to yourself and to not be scared to enjoy life...live...
that is what i got.
It's an amazing song. It's intense, it seem to transports a lot of feelings. It's going under my skin when I am listening to it. No, not listening it is more feeling. And I think it's a tribute to The Who.
Beavis : Is this Pearl Jam?
Butt-head: This guy makes faces like Eddie Vedder.
Beavis: No, Eddie Vedder makes faces like this guy.
Butt-head: I heard these guys, like, came first and Pearl Jam ripped them off.
Beavis: No, Pearl Jam came first.
Butt-head: Well, they both suck.
it's one of the most amazing songs i have ever heard. Seems to be about Mike dealing with his past and trying to forge his way into the future. For me, it's about hope, strength and forgiveness. Amazing.
i just can't get it out of my head! McCready you frickin' genius!
die on a hilltop.. eyeing the crows,
waiting for your lids to close..
but you want to watch as they peck your flesh..
Ironic that they go for the eyes first
I can't stop listening to this song. The studio and live versions rock. I like how Eddie's voice is almost whispering in the studio version, then the drums kick in. The HOW I CHOOSE TO FEEL, IS HOW I AM lyrics are some of my favorite lyrics.
The song reminds me of the stuff you learn in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, you make your choices and you live with them (good or bad)...can't erase the past or change it, so decide your perspective on things from now on. Live in the moment....This song at the Gorge just caused me to have such a big epiphany, it made me all emotional -- but in a good way! I felt a weight lift off my shoulders (as indicated in AET)...Inside Job and I Am Mine go well together, for me...No matter my past, the present and future are up to me and how I choose to feel and react...
What I'd give to hear this song live!
I was only able to see them once this year..and it was the nite that they happened not to play it. It was a good set list, I just wanted to much.
*Sad*
I just listen and think of the words and I cry. *sniffle*
Running tears is all that I can do!!!

"The money flew down and stole my cracker!"
"Every time I go to the doctors I get a jacket, a straight one. It makes me feel special because I get to hug myself."
I am myself like you somehow.
I'll wait up in the dark for you to speak to me.
How I've opened up. Release me.
My favorite song on Avocado Blue. I love to hear it live or off the CD.

Relix magazine had a well done interview of Pearl Jam...here's a bit as the talk turned to "Inside Job":
The emotional track "Inside Job", from Pearl Jam's new self-titled disc, is the first to which McCready has penned lyrics.
"'Inside Job' was searching for some type of spiritual solution. To be able to write that song and then have everyone in the band want to do it was fucking awesome," he relates.
But first he had to give it to Vedder. Despite their longtime friendship, McCready was nervous that Ed wouldn't approve. "I was nervous because I had written the lyrics out, knowing that he had a lot of shit on his plate," he laughs. "It was like I gave him a full dinner, another extra course."
McCready then did something he rarely does. He sang to Vedder. "It was pretty nerve-wracking," he confesses. "But he was into it. It was cathartic to actually put some lyrics down and not feel self-conscious or embarrassed by it."
Keep the past somewhere in your memory banks and apply it to your present day decisions. All those hopes and dreams could not be achieved without everything leading up to it. Personally, I love Inside Job. Can't get enough of the first first 1min 54sec of the song. After that, it only gets better with Vedder lyrics.

I think he wrote some of the music. I'm not sure though.

I read an interview with Mike somewhere, and he said Ed helped out with the bridge. Didn't get any more specific than that, I don't think.
