What's interesting to me is that this is a great example of failing memory in middle age (yes that's right, I actually do intend to live to be 140!I hadn't listened to this for a while so gave it a spin just a while ago. I would describe it as kind of a blend of both smooth jazz tunes and 80's post hard bop. Some moments of good heat, but not as hot as I had recalled. I think my memory circuits were a little crossed because I had seen Hubbard at the 16 Annual U.C. Berkeley Jazz Festival in the late spring of 1982, just a year before this LP came out, and that performance has long stuck in my mind. At that particular time, Hubbard was blowing hot, and I mean red hot! He was truly on fire. The LP above is fine, but far from his finest moments. Ah well, a good excuse to give it a spin after quite a long time since the last one."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

Ah well, a good excuse to give it a spin after quite a long time since the last one.The sad thing is (and you no doubt know all this), these jazz artist who made such great music in the early part of their career were struggling to get by. They were better appreciated in Europe and a number of them relocated to places like Paris. Eventually, some of them started producing more popular cross over music or soft jazz in order to make a living. Guys like George Benson and Wes Montgomery come to mind. Both were great jazz artists early on and, though the quality of their work continued, they later chose to play pop tunes and such to make enough money to live on. Some of it was very good, but a lot of it sounds weak and is hardly what one thinks of as "jazz".But on a positive note, I'm really encouraged to see that there are several Pearl Jam/ rock fans here who appreciated jazz to a strong degree. That's great!Since I'm here, here's my random pick today:Ah ha! Speaking of jazz...

Funky jazz. Decades ago, my buddy and I were at the swap meet at 6 AM, as usual, digging for rare records. I pulled this one out of a box without the jacket. He found the jacket and I claimed it, since he couldn't listen to the cover.
