One of my coworkers just made me almost spit my coffee out. He walked up to another coworker of ours who is an ultra conservative Trumpster die hard and wished him a "Happy Insurrection Day." The guy just made a face and sort of chuckled, but you can tell he was annoyed.
If you haven't read the indictment, you should. And those drawing comparisons to sporting event riots, did folks from Montreal travel to Vancouver after seeing the images on television or travel to Vancouver without a game ticket for the sole purpose of rioting? How about folks from Vermont or Maine traveling to Boston after it was apparent the Sox would win their first World series since 1918? This shit is just beginning. Thank POOTWH.
Any odds on how far this conspiracy reaches? Think there might be plea deals with names named? Of elected members of Congress? If so, what should be the punishment? Intel Committee assignments?
The Rhode Less Traveled has a law degree from Yale. I wonder if he has a focus on patent law or criminal law? Hmmmmmm.
And where does one get a golf cart to zip around DC in? That'd be perfect for the Mall, from Union Station to the Lincoln Memorial and the White House to the Jefferson Memorial. It'd be the bomb.

This is a no brainer charge. All you have to do is prove they conspired to stop an official proceeding of the federal govt.
same penalties though as interrupting official proceeding
Isn't it 20 years?
dunno. the article posted stated the same penalties without specifying what they are.
If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three more Florida men, one with connections to a rightwing extremist group, have been arrested on charges related to storming the U.S. Capitol during the insurrection of Jan. 6, 2021, officials said.
Alan Fischer III, 28, of Tampa; Zachary Johnson, 33, of St. Petersburg; and Dion Rajewski, 61, of Largo; were arrested Thursday and charged with civil disorder, according to federal court records. Fischer and Rajewski are additionally charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers with a dangerous weapon.
The men are being prosecuted in Washington, DC, federal court.
According to a criminal complaint, Fischer marched to the Capitol with members of the Proud Boys, a group that describes itself as a “pro-Western fraternal organization for men who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world; aka Western Chauvinists.”
Fischer was part of a group that confronted law enforcement at an arched entrance to a passageway into the building, officials said. The group collectively pushed against officers, at times rocking together in a coordinated way, to gain entry to the interior of the building, authorities said. Fischer later moved to the west front of the Capitol, where he threw chairs, an orange traffic cone and a pole toward officers, prosecutors said.

Brooklyn judge's son pleads guilty to Capitol riot charges
1 hour ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — A New York City judge's son who referred to himself as a “caveman” eager to protest Donald Trump’s presidential election loss pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges he stormed the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.
Aaron Mostofsky was seen inside the Capitol wearing a fur costume and a bulletproof police vest that he was accused of stealing during the mayhem. He also gave a video interview inside the building, telling the New York Post he was there “to express my opinion as a free American that this election was stolen.”
Mostofsky, 35, pleaded guilty to charges of civil disorder, theft of government property, and entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds.
Mostofsky is scheduled to be sentenced May 6. He faces 12 to 18 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg said. Mostofsky also agreed to pay $2,000 restitution.
Mostofsky’s father is Steven Mostofsky, a state court judge in Brooklyn. A message seeking comment was left with a court spokesperson.
Aaron Mostofsky’s unusual garb made him stand out from the crowd of camouflage-wearing, flag-waving rioters. At one point, he was photographed sitting on a bench near the Senate chamber holding a stick and the riot shield, which he said he picked up off the floor.

Jan. 6 defendant asks to subpoena Trump as trial witness
By Caroline Vakil

A defendant who faces multiple charges connected to the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol is asking to subpoena former President Trump, among others, as a trial witness.
Attorney
Samuel Shamansky on Friday submitted court filings on behalf of his
client, Jan. 6 defendant Dustin Thompson, asking for a judge to allow
them to subpoena Trump and others to testify as witnesses in Thompson’s
trial.
“Defendant submits
that the individuals he seeks to subpoena are in exclusive possession of
information relevant to this case. Moreover, their testimony is
necessary to ensure that Defendant’s constitutional right to present a
complete defense is safeguarded,” according to the court filings.
"It
is anticipated that, when called as a witness, Donald J. Trump will
testify that he and others orchestrated a carefully crafted plot to call
into question the integrity of the 2020 presidential election and the
validity of President Biden’s
victory," the filings add. "Moreover, it will be established at trial
that Mr. Trump and his conspirators engaged in a concerted effort to
deceive the public, including Defendant, into believing that American
democracy was at stake if Congress was permitted to certify the election
results."
The court
filings indicate that if Trump and others were compelled to testify in
Thompson’s trial, their testimony would show that they had wanted to
prevent Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election
results.
“Defendant
submits that the testimony of Mr. Trump and his conspirators will
establish that they were determined, by any means necessary, to prevent
Congress from fulfilling its constitutional mandate to certify the
election results,” the court filings said. “In order to accomplish that
goal, the conspirators Defendant now seeks to subpoena engaged in a
concerted effort to organize, encourage, and direct rally participants
to storm the Capitol, enter the grounds, ‘fight like hell,’ and ‘engage
in trial by combat.”

Trump supporters try to break through a police barrier at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

A Library of Congress employee whose staffers were ordered to evacuate on Jan. 6. The stepson of President Donald Trump’s U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. A man who lives just a short walk from the Capitol and said he was “afraid” during the Capitol riot.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys preparing to convene the first criminal trial stemming from the Capitol attack are confronting the challenge of picking impartial members for the jury, despite the searing toll the attack had on Washington and the often clubby connections that define the Capitol Hill community.
Those challenges were on display on Monday, nearly 14 months after a mob stormed the Capitol and threatened the transfer of power from Trump to Joe Biden, as jury selection began in the cavernous ceremonial courtroom at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, where Guy Reffitt, 49, a Texas oil rig worker, is set to face five felony counts for his role in the attack.
Jury selection was expected to be a laborious process because of the widespread press and public attention to the Capitol riot, which caused disruptions in much of official Washington and led to a large portion of Capitol Hill being barricaded for months. The impact of the riot on Washington and its residents was evident on Monday, as potential jurors described their reactions to the events of Jan. 6 and the massive increase in security after the Capitol takeover.
Several of the potential jurors, who were generally not named in court, struggled with questions about whether they could be impartial in the case in light of the impact the riot had on the city.
