    I expect the angle to be that Biden only did it because Trump mentioned it in May and that it was for political reasons due to the upcoming election. Makes the dems look better. There's plenty of arguments and hypotheticals to be made that are actually plausible and that can't be proven/disproven either way.
    It's a hopeless situation...

    I also think it was suggested in Jake Sullivan's press conference that Navalny was supposed to be part of this exchange but he died before negotiations could be concluded.
    All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.

    Unfortunately, I don't believe Navalny was ever leaving.  
    Yeah, no way they would have let him go. He was always going to "die" if he was a part of negotiations.

    The Biden administration was negotiating for the release of Navalny, they were trying to free him.
    Whether or not Putin would have honored any such agreement is a different matter. And for all we know (and we'll never know for sure), Putin caused Navalny to "fall ill" because these talks were happening (they were already happening when Navalny died).
    All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.
