Doesn't look like Amazon (US) is taking any more orders either. I poked around a few of the other links in here and most say it's still a couple of weeks to ship. Little odd that Amazon US isn't even offering up an estimated ship date. They did give me the option to cxl my order but I kept it open. I have yet to see any available to ship-on-order so perhaps they are just a little behind on production and we'll get some back in stock to ship soon. Hope so.
oh good - can't wait to find out if anyone shared their thoughts about Bushleaguer? " ...With onion-skin plausibility of life and a keyboard reaffirmation" ......
PEARL JAM in 2024! Dark Matter and MORE ! THANK YOU!! Peace Love & Pearl Jam forever!!
as one of the editors of "Pearl Jam and Philosophy" (Bloomsbury Academic, 2021) and the author of the first chapter of the book, I am so happy that there has been a long conversation on our book here on the Pearl Jam / Ten Club website!
Thanks so much for your interest, we hope that both readers interested in philosophy and Pearl Jam fans may appreciate our work!
As to the price of the book, yes, unfortunately it is very high... but this does not depend in any way from the decisions of the authors or the editors of the book, but is rather a decision of the publisher as commonly happens with academic books.
Anyway, the publisher might decide to also publish a cheaper paperback edition of "Pearl Jam and Philosophy" after some time, and we really hope that this can be of help to make the book more achievable and accessible to the wide community of Pearl Jam fans in the world.
As to the nature of the book, yes, this is not a history of the career of Pearl Jam or a biography of the band members, but it is rather a philosophical book focused on the artistic work of one of the greatest bands in recent rock history, starting from the general assumption and the basic presupposition that also popular music (like classical music, jazz music, etc.) may deserve serious attention also from a philosophical point of view.
Our attempt and aim, as authors of the various chapters of this book, is to let emerge the rich and complex philosophical contents and implications at different levels (aesthetic, ethical, political, metaphysical, existential) that, in our view, have been present in many songs of Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder from 1991 until today.
Should it be of your interest, on the webpage of the publisher dedicate to our book you can find 4 or 5 short reviews that can help to clarify our particular approach to the work of our favourite band.
Should it be of your interest (at least for Pearl Jam fans who can read Italian), a few months ago we, as editors of "Pearl Jam and Philosophy", have been interviewed by "Rolling Stone" to explain the main contents and the particular approach of our book.
in the last issue of "The Journal of Asia-Pacific Pop Culture" (an academic journal dedicated to popular culture and published by The Penn State University Press),
in which I co-edited with two colleagues a monographic section on the topic "Popular culture and social criticism",
also a contribution of mine on the cultural significance of Pearl Jam was included:
"Thirty Years of Pearl Jam (and Grunge Subculture), 1991–2021"
I bought the book. I'm about half way through and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's a read that requires concentration and attention to details. I find myself reading, pondering, reading, pondering. Well done!
Thanks for the links. I received it as a Christmas present from my daughters. I am also half way through. I have enjoyed it so far. I wasn’t sure what to expect but have been pleasantly surprised. I have not read much philosophy before so I am intrigued to read more.
Should it be of your interest, a new book review of "Pearl Jam and Philosophy" (Bloomsbury Academic Publishing, 2021) has just appeared on the philosophical journal "Phenomenological Reviews".
New review of S. Marino and A. Schembari (eds.), "Pearl Jam and Philosophy". The review was written by the Italian musicologist Luca Cerchiari and is entitled "The music that also philosophers like".
