*Parachutes**

Im listening to cd at work and I realized I think no one likes this song because it got this 50ish, Last Kiss sound to it....and as we all know no one really likes Last Kiss. The lyrics I really like but the strumming I think is what irks me...any thoughts? Tawk amongst yoouselves.

  • I like it. As I said in a previous thread, it reminds me of "Wot's.....Uh, The Deal?" by Pink Floyd.

    And it makes me wonder...........?

At first I despised this song, so much that I thought it did not even belong on the album. But, I must say it has grown on me like I never thought it would. Right now it is one of my favorites off the album. The words have a lot to do with it. Once I read them and got to know them better, the whole song started to come together for me. Maybe cause I heard them play it at the second Camden show. Who knows!! Love it though.
  • I like Last Kiss. I like 50s music. I love Come Back, which is much more 50s sounding to me. If anything, Parachutes sounds sixties. Which, in itself, is fine. I just think it's a rubbish song.

  • I love it. Been to 3 shows this tour, and haven't heard it yet. Going to pitts and cincy and praying 4 them to play it!!!!

On first listen, this was my least favorite song of the album. It sounded like a 78 being played at 33 1/3. And it smacked of something Beatle-esque which is not the way to my heart.

But I've gotten over it since then. Getting past the sound of the song and to the lyrics usually gets me there. And now I am there with Parachutes. It's a keeper.

  • This song is fantastic, its somewhat evolutionary for them..
touch of coldplay or beatles influence, they should let themselves be influenced more. Eddie is my favorite singer/songwriter of all time, but he should start to experiment more with his voice, sing with some more harmony, falsetto voice...it's 90% heavy vocals, I read recently some comments he made about green day, sort of laughing at how their vocals sound...
Ed needs to let go more, I think he's limited himself to what he hears as cool, or rock masculine and probably has alotr more to offer on the high end, in a vulnerable way but resists....he should listen to the lead singer of coldplay, if he ever could incorporate some of his singing style it would be tantamount to adding 4 colors to his voice rainbo, in my humble opinion.
  • its a good song, its completely different for them

gone still craps on it though

It's one of my favorite songs from the album. Sometimes it would rank as my number one actually depending on my mood. The lyrics and music are beautiful. I just love the whole vibe.

I just love the line "I would have fallen from the sky till you, parachutes have opened now."

    Soo beautiful.
  • At first listen I wasn't too keen on Parachutes, but once I really heard the lyrics, it changed for me. One of my favorites now. And I loved "Last Kiss"!

I like it. It's a great little love song. It's a love song that only ed could write. not too sappy.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD

I have only met two other people who really know this song. Obscurred by Clouds is timeless. I love to pick this song myself. it is so beautiful.

It doesn't remind me of Parachutes. I love Parachutes.

Fits awesome on the album. First 5 songs on the album come out and punch you in the gut and get right in your face. The comes Parachutes which is an awesome change of pace. Well thought out.
  • It kinda grows on ya like the rest of the album. This happens to me for all their albums. Like good herb or fine wine, it only gets better if ya keep it right!

Like others have said, it's the only one I didn't like at ALL when I got the album but it slowly grew on me and it's now my favourite. I think it and marker have the most poetic songwriting on the album and every time I listen to it another line clicks with me and makes sense - 'a wave will break on me today' was always my favourite line on the album before I even liked the song.
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love
    What a different life
Had I not found this love with you
  • As my name implies, I love the song. When I first heard it, it WAS the syncopated strumming of the guitar that peaked my interest. I even told a good friend that it was my favorite so far on the album, and this was before I read the lyrics. Put together it's so sweet, and his voice...ah. Although I can't think of anyone specifically I'd sing it to, this song of love is an exact representation of how I feel.
  • Love the song--one of my favorites on the album. It really just clicked with me when I had my stereo cranked up and I was sittin there singing along to it and my girlfriend came and snuggled up during this song. It all made perfect sense!

To me, this song is about a day, 2 years ago when I saw my ex-girlfriend for the first time in nearly two years (we had our first relationship 4 years ago). We had been talking on the phone and such and that day when I saw her, I still had feelings for her and I tried to tell her that she was always someone hwo was special to me and that she'd impacted my life. A couple months later we were together again, but then she left me again...that was two years ago almost.
