"Filler Vitalogy Tracks"

I don't mind the "fillers". I can (at least I think I can) understand why some were put on the albums. Funny side story, I was at work writing a computer program and listening to music on the PC there. Well, I apparently fell asleep and when I woke up, Stupid Mop was playing and it about scared me to death. I didn't know what was going on for a couple of seconds there.0

i like the "filler" tracks on vitolagy, i think with out them vitalogy wouldn't be the same. as for the other "filler" tracks on other albums they are all awesome as well.0

We have the exact same opinion! Except, sorry to who I offend, but fuck Writer's Block. That is a waste...0 -
I happen to like them all. Vitalogy is probably my favorite album."I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."0

aye divinita is one of pjs finest moments actually, not filler at all, just has no words0

Heresy, I say!
Anyway, I don't really mind Aye Davanita, and I think Stupid Mop is cool simply because it is creepy and unique... but Bugs and Pry, To don't work for me.It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win0 -
danny72688 wrote:Who here likes the "filler" tracks on Vitalogy too? By "filler" I mean: Pry, to, Bugs, Aye Davanita, and Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me (Stupid Mop). Bugs is the only one I sometimes skip over just because I don't like the accordian that much (though when I'm in the mood I like it), but the other three I think are cool. Pry, to is a weird, short track that has a cool jam going. I especially love how creepy the last song is. And Aye Davanita is oddly catchy.
Any thoughts from others about these four overlooked tracks?
I like those tracks. The only "filler' on Vitalogy as far as I'm concerned is Betterman2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. Better Man? Why is that "filler"?0 -

Love Aye Davanita!DOSW wrote:Anyway, I don't really mind Aye Davanita, and I think Stupid Mop is cool simply because it is creepy and unique... but Bugs and Pry, To don't work for me.
Stupid Mop is one of my favorites on the album because it's so weird. Something attracts me to it. Pry, To could've been something had it been longer, but what we get I like. And Bugs, well it doesn't BUG me0 -
MJSilvestri wrote:To me a filler track is a song you put on the album because you do not have enough songs to make it a full LP. This is not the case with these songs they are there for some artisitc purpose or another.
Vitalogy is my favorite album and I feel that these tracks help give it the feel the band wanted more like an old 70s album...
Absolutely agree... and the will to show I will always be better than before.0 -

Well "filler" might be a little harsh. first off, i don't like that song at all so I'm biased against it. Secondly and more importantly, I don't think it fits the tone of the album very well. I think the fact that it was written about 5 years before the rest of the REAL Vitalogy material might have something to do with it.
I've always thought that Betterman would have been better off alone, like on the Merkinball EP or something. not too many people share this view with me though.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. I see exactly where you're coming from, however I think Better Man fits with Vitalogy.
Reasons:
*Creepy intro fits the theme of Vitalogy and with it flows great right from Satan's Bed, then ends on a note to flow right into Aye Davanita.
*Lyrics fit the theme of Vitalogy
*Upbeat music lulls you into a false sense of security about the song when it's something much darker (very Vitalogy in my opinion)0 -

I've always thought that creepy intro is kinda tacked on. As if to say "see, this song has an odd intro so it belongs on this album.
I know what you mean though. Everyone seems to love Betterman so i'm in a minority here. I'll take The Whale Song over it anyday.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. I love the Whale Song
Yeah the intro does feel a bit forced, but I like how it starts like that, then changes into the same thing, but sounds happy. Better Man may have done better on Merkin Ball, but I like it on Vitalogy.
You know, you got me thinking. I hate Better Man on the radio. I never hear that intro on the radio so it seems sort of fake to me. Wonder how it'd sound on Vitalogy WITHOUT the intro......0 -
danny72688 wrote:Yeah I hate to admit but I think I only like 'em 'cause it's PJ... But that's actually a compliment to the band because no other band could've made them cool to me
. I'm also a fan of the other "fillers" on the rest of their CDs. Is it me or is it a trend for PJ to have an odd track on each album after Ten???
I'm sorry..but Dirty Frank?! What was that?"A compiment for US...is a compliment for YOU." - Eddie Vedder of Citizen Dick0 -
For me, the fillers of vitalogy are part of the album and help to create the spirit of it. I'm pretty sure the album would sound different without these tracks... it goes with the cover, with the entire spirit behind vitalogy's concept...
Still my favorite album, and I'm even listening to betterman right now...
Fucking jesus, it's really the best album of all time... I was in antwerp (belgium) this week and they played 5 or 6 tracks of this album... i'm still shivering..2006: Antwerp, Paris
2007: Copenhagen, Werchter
2009: Rotterdam, London
2010: MSG, Arras, Werchter
2012: Amsterdam, Prague, Berlin
2014: Amsterdam, Stockholm0 -

Yeah Vitalogy would be weird without them! This album is very good if you can appreciate all the songs. I wish Pry, To was a bit longer, they had a good jam going.
Which 6 songs did they play? Probably Corduroy, and Better Man. I'm too lazy to look right now.0 -

Bugs rules!!!
I've been listening to Bugs a lot lately. Recently it's become so catchy
Stupid Mop is tough to swallow, but I love that song (before midnight - had some bad experience with that song over the summer) The drums and guitar tidbits are awesome and really take you on a ride, and when the bass comes in...
I love that "song".
