Well "filler" might be a little harsh. first off, i don't like that song at all so I'm biased against it. Secondly and more importantly, I don't think it fits the tone of the album very well. I think the fact that it was written about 5 years before the rest of the REAL Vitalogy material might have something to do with it.
I've always thought that Betterman would have been better off alone, like on the Merkinball EP or something. not too many people share this view with me though.

I see exactly where you're coming from, however I think Better Man fits with Vitalogy.
Reasons:
*Creepy intro fits the theme of Vitalogy and with it flows great right from Satan's Bed, then ends on a note to flow right into Aye Davanita.
*Lyrics fit the theme of Vitalogy
*Upbeat music lulls you into a false sense of security about the song when it's something much darker (very Vitalogy in my opinion)
I've always thought that creepy intro is kinda tacked on. As if to say "see, this song has an odd intro so it belongs on this album.
I know what you mean though. Everyone seems to love Betterman so i'm in a minority here. I'll take The Whale Song over it anyday.

Yeah the intro does feel a bit forced, but I like how it starts like that, then changes into the same thing, but sounds happy. Better Man may have done better on Merkin Ball, but I like it on Vitalogy.
You know, you got me thinking. I hate Better Man on the radio. I never hear that intro on the radio so it seems sort of fake to me. Wonder how it'd sound on Vitalogy WITHOUT the intro......
Yeah I hate to admit but I think I only like 'em 'cause it's PJ... But that's actually a compliment to the band because no other band could've made them cool to me . I'm also a fan of the other "fillers" on the rest of their CDs. Is it me or is it a trend for PJ to have an odd track on each album after Ten???

Yeah Vitalogy would be weird without them! This album is very good if you can appreciate all the songs. I wish Pry, To was a bit longer, they had a good jam going.
Which 6 songs did they play? Probably Corduroy, and Better Man. I'm too lazy to look right now.
Vitalogy is a concept album and these fillers contribute to the story of the album. Although I do believe Stupid Mop is simply too much...

I've been listening to Bugs a lot lately. Recently it's become so catchy
Stupid Mop is tough to swallow, but I love that song (before midnight - had some bad experience with that song over the summer ) The drums and guitar tidbits are awesome and really take you on a ride, and when the bass comes in... I love that "song".
