"Filler Vitalogy Tracks"

prytocorduroyprytocorduroy Posts: 4,355
Who here likes the "filler" tracks on Vitalogy too? By "filler" I mean: Pry, to, Bugs, Aye Davanita, and Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me (Stupid Mop). Bugs is the only one I sometimes skip over just because I don't like the accordian that much (though when I'm in the mood I like it), but the other three I think are cool. Pry, to is a weird, short track that has a cool jam going. I especially love how creepy the last song is. And Aye Davanita is oddly catchy.

Any thoughts from others about these four overlooked tracks?

Not me, I love Vitalogy and consider it "Stacked" with great songs but the 4 fillers are too much...

On second thought, I do like Bugs... and almost always down for that accordian with "out-there" lyrics, but cannot say the same with the other 3 fillers.

I was kinda that way at first, but they grew on me. I actually was pissed off that PJ put so many weird tracks on Vitalogy that I never listened to it. Only after rediscovering the greatness of this album did I realize these songs were cool (to me) too, they just aren't your standard rock song. Satan's Bed is even a bit out there, but that's one of my Vitalogy favorites :).

You really don't like Aye Davanita? That one is pretty catchy for some reason. And Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me is one of those songs I listen to just because there's nothing like it. It's so creepy, especially in the dark...

Oh well, it's kinda cool being the only one I know who likes 'em!
  • i like those "filler" tracks except for hey foxymophandlemama... i'm not jokin i think i've never listened to it from the beginning to the end because it scares me too much! don't know why, but it really freaks me out!!
it's easy to confuse a great design with life's ripercussions

That's what I love about it! I've never been freaked out by a song before this one. I think it's supposed to be real life tapes of a mental patient (I mean the guy is talking about mopping the floor and how he hates the mop because it streaks but the floor looks beautiful, and killing himself, and getting a spanking). I really like listening to it for some reason. So dark and creepy...
  • To me a filler track is a song you put on the album because you do not have enough songs to make it a full LP. This is not the case with these songs they are there for some artisitc purpose or another.

Vitalogy is my favorite album and I feel that these tracks help give it the feel the band wanted more like an old 70s album...

That's why I put quotations around the word filler. I don't consider them filler (though many, many, many would argue with me), just different.

Vitalogy is my second favorite PJ album. First goes to none other than...VS!
  • I'm cool with each of those tracks you mentioned individually but I do wish there weren't 4 of them on the album.

I'm sorry but to my opinion there are no "fillers" on any of the PJ albums!

I think bugs is a great track actually. I wouldn't necessarily consider those tracks filler tracks though. Just different.

Hence the quotations around the word filler. I don't think they're filler either. ;) But a lot of people do.

I can't stand any fillers from any album, they could have used songs from Lost Dogs instead of fillers. I want real songs!

Why are these fillers to you? 'Cause they're different? That's cool if you feel that way but you should consider half of Lost Dogs filler and nearly all of No Code if that's the case which I'm sure you don't.

They are "songs" less than one minuet and they just don't sound good at all, they don't belong on an album. Sure Lukin is short but atleast it's kickass and gets played at concerts. I don't consider any songs on Lost Dogs as fillers, and the only filler on No Code is "I'm Open".

On Vitalogy it has like four fillers (if you count Stupid Mop, but I'll admit it has started to grow on me) anyway they could have been replaced with proper songs, which would have made it a much better album (even though it's already great).

IMO "songs" like Red Dot and Push Me Pull Me prevented Yield from being a perfect album, however they tainted it a little bit and they should have been taken out.

Okay I see what you mean. That's cool, I hated the songs at first (except Aye Davanita - always thought that one was really catchy) but as I got more into PJ I started loving them.

And Red Dot is kinda catchy to me ;).
  • I'm glad this topic has come up. I personally like all except Foxy mop....Can anyone tell me if they have ever read or heard any of the band members talk about any of these "filler" tracks? I've asked this before but never really got a response.

It's not just with PJ either, I can't stand fillers from any band as well. STP for example had great CDs but added in fillers which made it annoying. Oh well some people love em and I guess that's all that matters.

Yeah I hate to admit but I think I only like 'em 'cause it's PJ... But that's actually a compliment to the band because no other band could've made them cool to me :). I'm also a fan of the other "fillers" on the rest of their CDs. Is it me or is it a trend for PJ to have an odd track on each album after Ten???

They've NEVER played any of these tracks live either! I read somewhere online that Eddie claimed Bugs was the band's best work, but I think he was being sarcastic. That's all that I've heard. Well, I've heard Stupid Mop is an actual recording of a mental patient or something.

I don't mind the "fillers". I can (at least I think I can) understand why some were put on the albums. Funny side story, I was at work writing a computer program and listening to music on the PC there. Well, I apparently fell asleep and when I woke up, Stupid Mop was playing and it about scared me to death. I didn't know what was going on for a couple of seconds there.
  • i like the "filler" tracks on vitolagy, i think with out them vitalogy wouldn't be the same. as for the other "filler" tracks on other albums they are all awesome as well.

We have the exact same opinion! Except, sorry to who I offend, but fuck Writer's Block. That is a waste...

I happen to like them all. Vitalogy is probably my favorite album. :)

    Heresy, I say!

Anyway, I don't really mind Aye Davanita, and I think Stupid Mop is cool simply because it is creepy and unique... but Bugs and Pry, To don't work for me.

I like those tracks. The only "filler' on Vitalogy as far as I'm concerned is Betterman

Stupid Mop is one of my favorites on the album because it's so weird. Something attracts me to it. Pry, To could've been something had it been longer, but what we get I like. And Bugs, well it doesn't BUG me ;)
