2021? Yea right

JR86440JR86440 Posts: 741
I don’t see how any tour happens in 2021. Fauci today said a successful vaccine will only help 50/60% of those that receive!!!. That is the goal. What if it’s 30%? What if it’s less? What if vaccine doesn’t work? We wait indefinitely? Even if they hit goal, that’s still a lot of sick people. Unfortunately I think this is something we are going to have to live with for the next decade but we can’t keep everything closed. Not for the next 10 years. Sooner or later we will come to the realization that we need to move on. Get our health system in place. Support those at risk. Try to get as back to normal as possible. Concerts, sports, most importantly schools. Unfortunately I don’t trust anybody in authority, Republicans or Democrats, to do the right thing.  PJ 2022?? I hope

Happy Friday Debbie Downer.  Appreciate your thoughts and opinions, but optimism is free, so I'm buying.  Here's to PJ in Europe next summer and back in the states in the fall.

The real question is, will we get a new album before the next tour? .... that's a joke....mostly. p.s. I still love Gigaton.

60% is the target for a vaccine to establish herd immunity, with 70%+ being ideal. So if the vaccine immunizes between 50 and 60% as Fauci suggested, combined with those who already have antibodies we should be on our way.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Has anyone spoke to the band about playing in front of large crowds if there is only a 50% to 60% of a positive vaccination rate ?

Because recommending people wear masks and stay 6 feet apart makes him a “big pharma incarnate.”   Lol.

The government wouldn’t welcome the Blue Jay due to the constant  border travel.   If Pearl Jam came north , isolated for 2 weeks and did a Canadian tour I believe it would work.  Ontario has a population of 12 million people and our daily virus numbers are now under 100.
We have been in stage 3 for over 3 weeks and mandatory face covering ( I hate wearing one but they work) for over 4 weeks.

I forgot my original point.........oh ya,  Cant wait for Pearl Jam in 2021

Today in Ireland the cases jumped to 174. A massive jump. It was single figures a few weeks ago.  Covid was gone from the community.  Its crept back in.

Exactly and official statistics says that the seasonal flu is more deadly and with a 99.97% survival rate and that's if you're one of the rare unlucky ones to actually get it I think I'll take my chances lol

But also, most people have been smart. They've been social distancing, wearing masks, avoiding unnecessary trips/vacations, etc.

The science says that when people congregate in large groups without wearing masks, the numbers spike. But then again, science seems to be difficult for approximately half the country.

I think Europe will see Pearl Jam next year. Like someone else said - life can’t stop forever. Obviously it’s not guaranteed, but I think the tour will happen.

Unfortunately I don’t see any gigs happening in the States in 2021.

2021 feels very optimistic. I liked the witty comment above that science seems difficult for many to comprehend. I'd add history to that notion too. Pandemics don't stop in 6 months to a year.
I think people should be able to request a refund whenever they want, and expect that money within 2 weeks.
As someone else mentioned earlier, I've also thought about not attending sporting events and concerts again. If not attending means I reduce the health risks to my family and senior-aged members of our immediate and extended family it's an easy decision.
