“Failure have wrestled with the question of Spotify and whether to have our newest music, which we control, on the platform. Until now, our ambivalence about Spotify has been based on their draconian royalty calculation which essentially gives artists a microscopic fraction of the money being generated by their music on the platform. We’ve all seen the stories of just how little Spotify pays artists whose product powers their entire business model. It’s been a scam for artists since the beginning, following in the tradition of the major label model which preceded it.
But artists who want to have their music heard by the most ears possible have had an tough decision to make. Do we give our music to a company that devalues our product to the point where royalty checks from Spotify have become the butt of humorous memes, or do we withhold our music from the platform and supposedly miss out on an ‘entire generation of music listeners?’
That is exactly where Failure have been since 2015 when we released our first album since reuniting. Acquiescing to the desire for more ear holes. But now, with Spotify’s recent policy shift that allows COVID vaccine misinformation to thrive on their platform, Failure have decided that enough is enough.
Beyond the moral issues raised by Spotify’s COVID decision, the issue of vaccine misinformation and how it directly affects the current situation in the live music space is simply untenable. Right now, Failure have a 31-date US tour booked for June. The last tour we had booked in 2019 was canceled because of COVID, which was a massive financial blow to the band. The vast majority of venues on our upcoming tour are requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test to see our show. We simply cannot square Spotify’s insistence on spreading misinformation about something that directly endangers our band’s supply chain, namely, human beings in a room with big speakers. There are multiple layers, and reasons for our decision, but looking at the capitalistic, free market angle, this band, like any other small business, is cutting ties with a partner that continues to cut into our bottom line. On that level, this problem is really that simple.
Of course, no system or business is perfect, but we have alternatives to Spotify that allow the band to be compensated in a more sustainable way, and without the need to associate ourselves with dangerous lies about public health policy.
If you want to buy lossless digital versions of our entire catalogue, we encourage you to purchase our music on Bandcamp: failureband.bandcamp.com
If you want to stream our music, we continue to offer our music through Apple and other streaming services.
We encourage other artists who want to be paid better for their music, and who don’t want to be in business with a company who is comfortable jeopardizing the industry to which they owe their entire business model, to join us.
Sincerely, Failure”
I think it is funny how these artists are only going after Spotify yet the other platforms have more misinformation than Joe Rogan has spewed.Neil Young hates Spotify but now he loves Amazon? Oh the hypocrisy. And I see Failure has a YouTube channel. They must only watch their videos considering how much misinformation that platform gifts to the world. I don't see an issue with these people complaining about Joe Rogan and Spotify but they go out and promote other platforms that are just as guilty if not more guilty.I like the last line in their statement, "We encourage other artists who want to be paid better for their music, and who don’t want to be in business with a company who is comfortable jeopardizing the industry to which they owe their entire business model, to join us."I totally get the part about not getting paid better for their music. As for "jeopardizing the industry to which they owe their entire business model", I call BS. How many people are Failure putting at risk by going on a national tour? EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT GOES TO THEIR SHOWS.
I'm sick and tired of all the whining, crying and finger pointing.

I know this is the Joe Rogan thread but I found some interesting stuff on Neil Young. Here is the first:https://www.dailywire.com/news/you-see-a-fot-behind-the-fin-cash-register-neil-youngs-1985-comments-on-homosexuals-and-aids-resurface-after-joe-rogan-ultimatum-controversy“In an interview with Melody Maker in 1985, Neil Young backed Reagan’s gun control policies and said of AIDS, ‘You go to a supermarket and you see a faggot behind the f***in’ cash register, you don’t want him to handle your potatoes,” Young said, Rolling Stone reported in 2013.You want to talk about someone spreading information and harming the public.....That Neil Young is a swell guy. How much homophobia did Neil spread around in the 80's?Neil Young believes in science..... except when he doesn't..... https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/neil-young-gmo-monsanto-msna649971I don't blame Neil for arguing against GMOs but the science says that it is safe. Neil Young argues against that science. It's one thing to commit and promote eating organic but what he was doing was spreading misinformation and lies.Joe Rogan is not doctor and says the N word. Neil Young is not doctor but pretends to know more than you and also hates gay people.0

not that I'm trying to excuse it, but to add a bit more context: (it seems to me like he's speaking societally rather than his own bigotry, based on the comments that followed, but again, maybe I'm giving him too much of the benefit of the doubt). And yes, he did support Reagan. But he switched. As an example, after 9/11, I supported Dubya and the war in Iraq. Once a friend educated me, I changed my tune. BIG TIME.

Not only that, there was the collage of Joe Rogan saying the N word. Neil has his own skeletons in the closet with his homophobic remark.I think it would be great if Neil went on Joe's show and they were able to discuss this instead of Neil throwing a tantrum. Neil is on youtube. Is he going to demand to be removed because of all the misinformation there? or how about Neil admits he is no scientist and has fueled the misinformation pandemic by spreading false GMO information himsel? Neil contributed to the anti science stance just a few years ago.0

Neil Young is not doctor but pretends to know more than you and also hates gay people.No. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy that Neil Young is leaving Spotify due to Joe Rogan spreading misinformation when Neil Young is doing the same thing in regards to GMOs. Neil contributed to the anti science stance just a few years ago.
