This is getting depressing

It's hitting me that we won't likely see any live performances of the new music until early 2021. Sucks for us, but also sucks for the band. Imagine putting out a new album, then having to hit the pause button on performing it completely. No concerts, no rehearsals, nothing.

Will they be artistically over these songs by the time they can actually perform them live? I don't know. Am I overthinking things? Probably.

What do you think?

I don’t think they’ll be over these songs but it‘ll be different for sure. I do think though that whenever these shows happen, everyone in the room will be incredibly grateful and will have a blast. I try to focus on that instead of the depressing situation right now

  • I mean I’m bummed that this year looked amazing and now it’s postponed but I have no doubt that when the shows do come they’re gonna be a little extra special.

When I think about all the people dying and losing jobs at an unprecedented clip, I consider myself lucky. Having to wait a year for a concert is a minor inconvenience in my view

Most of those are actually not cancelled, just postponed, so your wicked 2020 may just become a wickeder 2021!

I've gotten to the point where I'm okay writing off 2020 as a whole. No sports, concerts, vacations, etc. It honestly makes me feel better in a way, rather than guessing lets all just suck it up and mentally sacrifice 2020 for the sake of 2021 and beyond. Some normalcy will return in 2020, probably within months but I just don't see large gatherings taking place anytime soon. If I can do some camping this summer and my kid is back to school in August I would consider that an enormous victory at this point.

Of course this is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things and I consider myself lucky that I'm healthy (at least for now). I'm fully aware that life and death is more important than live music.

But in the Pearl Jam-specific message board and world where I'm discussing this topic, I believe it's ok for me to say "this fucking sucks."

It's absolutely ok! I think we can all agree that life and health is more important. We can also agree that postponing a tour we've all been waiting for is sad.

Sure it's ok. But "this is getting depressing" comes off as something heavier than just being bummed about a postponed concert.

Jeez, ok, "depressing" in the colloquial sense then.

I'm colloquially depressed for sure (can I be that even though I couldn't pronounce the thing for the life of me?)

I'm in the same mindset... Setting low expectations for the remainder of 2020. I'll consider it a win if we simply maintain our health and perhaps squeeze in a last minute vacation somewhere later this summer/fall if conditions permit.

I just want there to be enough treatment/procedures in place for schools and kids sports to resume in the fall.  I dont care about major events or sports, etc. I literally just want my kids' lives to return to normal.  Can you imagine being a kid and not being able to interact with your friends for 5 months, or more?

And it would suck to be a high school senior right now. Or an 8th grader.  Or a college student.

I have lost a heap of concerts as well, was meant to see STP, Bush and Live twice last weekend, they have been postponed to next feb. I am however feeling very lucky to be in Australia and our numbers seem to be leveling out at around 5000 cases. Schools have stayed open and government has hit hard with stimulus. My favourite sport has been suspended but is looking to start back up next month with the support of the government.

I wish you guys the best over in the US has it looks like you still have at least a week of tough days ahead.

The economic impact of no large gatherings for this year and part of next year would be huge. No college/pro sports. Nothing in an arena or stadium. No festivals. That’s thousands of jobs and it also hammers areas that were likely struggling, depending on the location. I hope it doesn’t happen and I guess it really depends on the number of new cases in June and July

This was set to be my most Pearl Jammy year ever. Seeing them in LA in April, then fly to London, and then see them at Ohana Fest, and be receptive to seeing them, again, on Leg 2. I feel so frustrated with this virus situation that has seriously fucked us all. But, as long as we and the band stay safe and healthy, we'll all be on the road to see them again one day soon.

This pandemic has touched every person on Earth in some way. Kids can't have prom, spring sports, school years ended early, we're missing concerts and sports. And yes, people are dying. It's awful in every way. I really think it's ok to feel what we feel and recognize others are hurting too. We can be disappointed and heartbroken and STILL show up in empathy, understanding and perspective for others. We're all feeling the effects. Stay strong. Stay healthy.

I don't know what I would do without my wife , we don't have kids ( by choice ) but I cannot imaging not getting to hold her or make love all weekend with nothing else to do.

It has reconnected us in a way that has been great , that said being locked up in a house with one person we for sure have had small disagreements here and there , no crazy arguments but just I mean we are with each other and no one else so bound to happen.
