Gigaton sounds just like Pearl Jam

Classic album top to bottom. If you don’t feel something after Quick Escape, check your pulse! No rambling here, lyrics more in tune with right now than they have been the last two records. Ed is dialed in, more than ever before. Get the insert out and read them. Matt’s drums are off the fucking chain. Every band member is repped’ in this record. Gigaton sounds like Pearl Jam both past and present. Very grateful to have new music, what a birthday gift fellas, cheers!

Agreed. This is the album we have been waiting on for a long time now. Not to mention that it happens to come at the time that it is needed the most. I think every member brought their fucking A game when it came to this record. It's like you could feel the their emotions on each of the tracks. Mike is just on fire with the guitar solo's on this album. Mind blown.

Aaggh, I’m not getting it at the moment, what am I missing?  I love all PJ records but I’m struggling here.  I get the first 4 songs plus  ‘Never Destination’ but I’m going to do some serious listening over the weekend to dial in on these others.

This man knows what he’s talking about oh and Matt too this album has everything I need from this band, I know I’ll be camping somewhere in the future and I will enjoy all the slow songs just enjoying nature! And when I’m driving home from work I’ll enjoying the rockers nice loud, thanks boys you have delivered!

    Totally agree with the OP.

I can be their biggest critic, but I think it's just PJ for me. Raw at times & the song Seven O'Clock is fantastic IMO.

It's funny how interpretation can be, with everyone saying they get the first 4 songs but not much else. I feel the album only comes alive from the 5th song.

I say, open a bottle of red, get stoned, switch off the news & just enjoy.

Happy Birthday! And thank you very much for posting this. Didn’t actually come here to post myself, but was curious what folks were saying after my own first full listen through. You nailed it! Was shocked to see a thread title that suggested otherwise - didn’t click that one. This album sounds EXACTLY like Pearl Jam! I’m gonna resist the hype and temptation to go all crazy, but I’ll say this... I’m going to wear out side C by June.

For me the weakest songs on Gigaton are still better then anything on LB and really I have not found one song that I would call weak or think about skipping.

Amen my brother, agree with all your thoughts. I posted somewhere else that while every song is excellent, I really felt Retrograde could possibly be their defining moment on this album.

Wait until you get to that point where you try and change it up by listening to something else after having Gigaton on repeat non-stop but you can't even get through one song before turning back to PJ.

This has been on constant repeat for several days and I couldn't be more pleased with this album. It is what I hoped it would be. Some unmistakable Pearl Jam mixed in with some new twists and turns. I think it shows maturity and confidence. It also seems to be an album full of input from the entire band. Ed wrote some pretty deep lyrics and has some killer vocal deliveries (and I've been critical of his delivery lately), Mike slays with some amazing solos, Stone really shines and turns up the funkiness with Buckle Up, and Matt makes a statement on a number of songs. As a member of Team McCready I'm usually most effusive about Mike, but I'm reserving that for Jeff this time. Man did he show up. I loved his last solo record, and I think he brought a ton of ideas and creativity to this record. I'm not sure where it will ultimately fall in my album rankings (clearly above LB and BS and probably Avocado for me), and I know I currently have a newness bias going on, but this is an album that I haven't tired of with repeated listenings. Oh, and BIG thumbs up to Josh Evans who was a breath of fresh air and managed to turn a stale band into something fresh. Kudos. I appreciate Brendan's efforts over the years, but it feels like they'd been running in place for too long. Not anymore! I went for a drive today with this thing cranked loud and forgot about all of the bullshit we're dealing with for a brief time. This record is a needed escape, especially now.

too early 4 me. I'm completely overwhelmed at this point. I have not made it through yet. I have never been overwhelmed by music. I am unable to completely grasp what I have. It feels like I have been fasting, and now I am trying to adsorb what has been given to me. It's a gift. I am humbled and my emotions have been invoked. so fortunate. more later. ty

    Oh man, what a ride!!!

I finally got the full listen today.  That’s what I call a Pearl Jam album!!!

When I read reviews that it had similarities to No Code and Yield (2 of my favorite albums), I couldn’t wait...  Although very different from both, I understand the analogy or comparison.  These guys are amazing and they just keep on rolling...

The new album definitely brings some light to these trying times.  Now I can’t wait for the day to come around so we can see these beauties live.  I’ll be listening a bunch to get me thru in the mean time.

Thank you guys, you’re fucking amazing!!!  Fuck yea, Pearl Jam!!!

Be safe out there everyone!  Hopefully we’ll get through this mess sooner than later...  Be well and best regards!

Wow, am I missing something?  There are some good songs on this album but some of you are in love here.  I’ve listened through 3 times w/lyrics.   Like everyone else I knew this was a Trump motivated album, but damn..... broken record with every song.   I hate Trump just as much as the next guy, I was just hoping for a little break from him in some songs.   Between COVID -19 and The Impeached Guy, I guess I was just hoping there would be a couple songs that would take me to a different place.
