05/18/10 - Newark - Underrated

My wife and I attended this show in 2010. It happened to be the day after we got engaged. We put it on just now and I was once again blown away how great the show was...

A day filled of down pouring rain, traffic and waiting.....

This is one of the more underrated performances by this band. The set was tremendous..

Started off with a the rare but always welcomed 'Of The Girl' followed by DTE... Alone makes an appearance early on to everyone's surprise along with Immortality, In Hiding, Insignificance (needs to be in rotation more) and Brother.

Glorified  G followed by a raucous Daughter/WMA and closing with Once.

Encore included Footsteps, Inside Job, Jersey Girl (Tom Waits), Whipping, Indifference closing with Watchtower.

A real gem... Just wanted to share and hopefully someone gives this a listen.

This was discussed elsewhere around here a couple weeks back. Great bootleg, but the experience of being at the show itself ranks the lowest among PJ concerts I’ve been to (if you don’t count GCF). The crowd sucked, there’s no other way to put it. In fact I think one of the reasons why the boot is so good is the complete lack of crowd noise.

What venue was this?  I think a couple of my friends were there, if I'm thinking of the same show.

  • Scored 2nd row with lotto. Because of that, this was one of the best shows ive been to. Insane setlist as previously stated. And if the crowd was wack, I couldnt tell. Everyone was def rocking around me. True the weather and traffic were exceptionally bad and I even got into a fender bender on the way there. Didnt think we would make the show but it all worked out.  Made eye contact with Eddie numerous times which freaked me out and I ended up looking away many times. Ed was particularly angry at this show as well.  Overall, one of my favorites among the 50 plus shows ive been to.

    TBD. Should've been Boston 2.

  • This show was definitely in my top 5 of as far as set list and playing quality. I do agree with the lack of crowd exuberance although I was doing my part...Definitely under rated and Newark is a dump BTW...

great setlist. the crowd was terrible. not sure if because we were tired from the few nights before or if it was the cold rain like weather or what. i remember ed just looking into the crowd and almost raising his arms in there thinking "what do i have to do to get this crowd moving?"

Thanks for the bootleg suggestion - I'll check this one out. Pretty cool that you mentioned getting engaged - this show was played on our 8th Anniversary. :)

Great show, great venue, shitty crowd.
But, I’d  go again in a heart beat.

I was at the Newark show and really enjoyed it.  Yes the crowd was not over the top but that’s never going to be a show killer for me.  A great crowd can make a show even better but for me it’s never going to make a show bad if the crowd isn’t berserk.

loved the show.  was on the floor in the back.  great set.  don't need the crowd to make it a great show for me as long as the playing is great and the set is solid.
