Hoping that means a little more Yield and a little less backspacer/lightning bolt. I enjoy those two albums but I also want a little meat on my rock songs.

    Awesome.  Thanks for posting.
  • I am excited to hear it, I like the sound of what the album is going to be like - sounds like a mix of all kinds of stuff

sounds like this album will have a little bit of this, little bit of that....the way it should be
  • Stone's comments lead me to believe Gigaton is going to be pretty much like LB or Backspacer.  I'm fine with whatever they choose to do.  But I still hope to hear a record someday where the music and musicianship are more prominent and Ed's vocals are relied on less.  The guy's pipes are shredded, and I love PJ songs that give the instrumentals some space and room to breathe.  Kind of hoping for a Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here type record one day.  Again, whatever they want to deliver I'm down for.

This. I think the last 2 have been scattered. I like most of it,  but not a cohesive feel.

I wouldn't classify people listing their hopes and expectations for the album as 'bitching'. This is a discussion forum after all. Only person I see bitching on this thread so far is you.
On that note, I for one don't really care if the album is super cohesive unless I actually enjoy each individual track. Otherwise I'll never really listen to it as a singular unit anyways and just skip around as I have on the last few releases. At the end of the day, I'm just happy to hear new tunes, and if there's at least one more good track on this album, this release will be worth it to me.

Why the heck would you share your opinion on a forum?

seriously, happy to read Stones comment about straight ahead rock songs , but that makes the press release a bit confusing

“It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption“

guessing it’s the map that’s experimental and not the style

If "Dance" is any hint, it seems like what's really happening here is that each of the band's members are operating a little more disparately on this record and seeing what arises naturally from that experimentation instead of setting out to make a song that innately sounds like a Pearl Jam song. Given that, it would make sense that most of these songs would still end up being traditional "rockers". Doesn't necessarily mean that they will sound just like LB or Backspacer as folks are suggesting.

What in the world is a "road map to musical redemption?" That doesn't even make sense. I keep reading that phrase, thought it was Mike who said it last time I read it on the 10C entry advertisement that I have to pass though each time, but I don't even know what it means. Supposedly the map (the album) takes them to salvation of some sort?? It's just so odd to me.  The musical redemption is apparently the end point. Why do they keep calling it a redemption?

The band flaking out on the singles is lame.  You guys complaining like they ran over your dog is embarrassing.

I love his guitar playing, but the dude seems to always speak in ambiguous platitudes when doing press for Pearl Jam. That said, these folks spend a lot of time around many "critically-acclaimed" musicians, new and old, despite the fact that they haven't technically fallen into that category since perhaps Yield. This is in no way me ragging on their catalogue, lest I wouldn't be here. But I imagine it might sting to some of them that they have continually received middling to poor reviews on their albums for the past 10 to 15 years. All speculation of course as we don't actually even know if a single member of this band enjoys most of the music that they play night after night. Or if they did enjoy it, if they still enjoy it.

Just another reminder that having an opinion and wanting to talk about it has nothing to do with 'bitching' and more to do with the act of existing on a message board. Curious what your IRL conversations look like. Do you folks just spew objectivity at people? Sounds boring.

Nobody is trying to exert their influence over the band unless they're requesting a song. And if they are, then yes they are being an ass. But that's not what's happening in this thread. Clearly.

It’s been great to see the interview with Stone. Also statements from mike and Jeff. Not expecting much from Ed as always. Interesting to see / hear what they do press wise in the lead up over the next month or so.
