Why an opener after ten years and why him?  A brand new band?

No one said there was a problem.
Has it really been 10 years since PJ had an opener (in the US)?

Think the days of the band playing 3hr+ sets (evening w/Pearl Jam) are gone. They are all in their mid 50's now so prob easier to have a support & play shorter sets fora tour.

I think they bit off more than they could chew trying to become Bruce Springsteen.

And it's a tradition in rock to have openers. So whatevz.

Nope. I seen Mudhoney open for Pearl Jam back in 2013 @ Portland, Spokane, Vancouver & Seattle. PJ still played for over 3 hours @ all those 4 shows.

As if you'd want PJ to just play an hour... only because Liam is lazy af, PJ don't have to be. I'm sure he still wants to charge a 3 hour price though

Didn’t they have a band called Midlake open for them a few shows on the LB tour?

I assumed an opener was a part of the "we got more seats for 10C folk negotiations.

Not necessarily a bad thing, I was just getting used to strolling in at 7:55pm, grabbing my beer and getting hyped as hell :)

Not sure of the real reason, but they are friends with the RHCP and this gives Josh an opportunity to showcase his solo stuff now that he’s out of the band. Since Jack and the RHCP helped out Pearl Jam, maybe they are just paying it forward.

Gave them an honest listen. The singer was terrible. The music was more of a lay in a field drop lsd or eat mushrooms and stare at the stars vibe. It made me sleepy. Doesnt really set the energy for a PJ show. Not bad music but doesn't do much to get people hyped. I'll soend my time getting beers and merch if I'm not GA.

Just selecting an opener because you are buds is odd.

If you're selling out shows regardless, that's the perfect way to pick an opener
  • It's a great way for legacy bands to give new bands a leg up.  Helps with their exposure.  Not sure why people need to complain about EVERYTHING.  Just let the band do what they want to do and enjoy.

@BE9456 and everyone else, because Mike has a connection to Josh - they played together a few times last year.

Way better to have canned music over the arena PA system and nothing happening on stage.

It's a way for them to help a buddy get some exposure.

I thought it was interesting that some of the licks on Dance of the Clairvoyance sound a lot like Josh's style and tone.

The Pluralone album is great. 'Rat Bastards at Every Turn' is a great song. Plus I think the fact they are taking Josh on the road with them could be great for him after him leaving RHCP
