They are probably afraid they themselves are gay.  To which I say, Come out of the closet.  It is OK to be gay!

No shit. I plan on going to both shows & it's dumb shit like this that creates a Raleigh situation all over again.

    Get it together, Tennessee.

This was my first thought... Nashville cancelled.
It’s amazing how powerful the religious right is in the states...  just couldn’t fathom living in that environment.

  • good thing i decided to go west instead of to nashville.

sure hope I get tickets to Nashville...and I really hope they play still.  It’s the next concert set to go with my daughter. Ironically, raleigh was going to be our first show together.

^^^They kind of hit the nail on the head with this one. Although it didn't appear on an album until 1992, Amy Ray wrote it in 1984 while witnessing and dealing with the racism, sexism and homophobia that permeated the place. It's 35 years later, and the song is still as relevant as ever.

And Florida continues to reassure me that I'll never return home to visit my family again. And my favorite member of my family, my grandmother, my daughter's namesake, is probably going to die soon. It makes me sad.

I guess I don't understand how or why a state would keep you from visiting family
Because once I get there, I would need to rent a car. At some point, I'd need to fill up the tank in that rental. Oh yeah, and I'd likely get hungry and have to eat something. I'll also need a place to sleep. All of those things are taxed, which is revenue for a state legislature that supports arming educators and discriminating against LGBTQ+ citizens. That's something I cannot in good conscience do. In the grand scheme of things, this legislation affects ~20 million people; my friends and family in Florida number maybe 40 people. The needs of the many ...

I've already missed one funeral. Donated to the deceased's charity of choice, though, in lieu of attendance.

I vowed not to visit the US as long as the current administration was in power. My PJ fandom trumps all conviction apparently.

I paid a fair amount to money to sit and listen to Henry Rollins talk.  But it was worth every cent and what he said made sense.

As a consequence of canceling that Raleigh show, people will inevitably scrutinize each of these situations. Would they cancel the Nashville show? If not, why not? Unless I'm missing something, that seems to be a civil rights nightmare. Religious group or not, they're accepting public funding and are allowed to discriminate?

Ah I gotcha.  If you want $0 in taxes paid I guess it makes sense.  I was thinkng you'd stay with family and they'd pick you up...so only food.

For me, I wouldn't make that choice.  If my family was important to me I would still visit and then limit things.  But that's just me and you do you.  I agree with your stance on arming teachers and LGBT (I can never keep up with the letters... wish there was a better term for discriminated upon based on your sexual identify or something like that)

Just curious, but the Supreme Court has ruled on similar cases like this before. I’m guessing this gets challenged in court and struck down eventually, no?

Doubt it. The federal courts (US Supreme included) are now stacked to support such abhorrent legislation.

Hmm, seems they would consider precedent and it’s not like the Supreme Court was stacked with liberals when coming to those earlier decisions. Pretty fucking sad these people don’t have better things to do with their time. So frustrating, all the problems in the world and this is the first bill that they send out in the new year. Fucking pigs.

They are driven by fear, hate, and ignorance.

For some reason in republican controlled districts and legislatures there is an extremely high level of fear, hate, and ignorance.
Not sure why so many voters and politicians live this way.
    Sad
