Lesser known "alternative" bands you're a fan of?

I'm not a fan of the term "alternative" but for lack of a better word...

What lesser known alternative bands are you a fan of?

I've been listening to Blake Babies and Lemonheads (better known than Blake Babies but not widely known) lately.  Here's a favorite from each:

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

If you are talking about 90's bands I like the Dandy Warhols.  You'd enjoy them.

Rodney on the Roq used to pimp them all the time on KROQ.  That man was ahead of his time.

Curve was one of my faves.  Angelfish (Shirley Manson’s band before Garbage) is great as well.

Hadn't heard of Curve.  Interesting and great singing:

    Two recent discoveries.

Catherine Wheel.  The first two albums, Ferment and Chrome are great.  So is Adam and Eve. Good stuff.
Dandy Warhols were mentioned.  Great band.

They really are not an alternative band but all three albums are masterpieces. Great vocals and harmonies. Their last album 3 is just mind blowing.
    Peace,Love and Pearl Jam.

Built to Spill - Keep it a Secret (album title). The song "Carry the zero" has one of my all time favorite outros. All their albums range from good to great!

Superchunk - Majesty Shredding is a newer album, and not a "classic" superchunk record...but damn it's so good.

Guided by Voices - The singer from this band has literally written more songs than Bob Dylan and The Beatles combined, so it's hard to pick a starting point...so a few tracks to check out: "Huffman Prairie Flying Field", "I am a scientist", "Gold Star for Robot Boy", "Secret Star", "The Best of Jill Hives", "Girls of Wild Strawberries"...random selection, but if you don't like these, you prob won't be a fan.

Thrush Hermit - Clayton Park. You may know the singer, Joel Plaskett, who's been doing his solo thing for years, but they're a good lesser known Canadian indie band that used to tour with Sloan.

That's all for now, because I could mention about 50 more lol

Blake Babies song "Rain" is one of my favorites of theirs, especially the demo version.  Found it on YouTube plus a cool live version.  I'm just crazy about this song!

Skating Polly...    I photographed them opening for X 3 years ago.. I was amazed how good they were live and so damn young!! Both John Doe and Exene came out and watched them side stage and raved about them...

    Who is Skating Polly?

Skating Polly, originally a duo from the Oklahoma City area, now calling Washington State home. The band began with step-sisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, formed in 2009 after playing together at the girls’ Halloween party. They were 9 and 14 years old at the time.

Mo Lowda & the Humble. Another incredible band that is still playing bar shows. They are out of Philly and just released another album this year. It is my favorite out of their 3. The song ‘Holding On’ is a top 25 song of all songs released this year.
