  • If you love koalas you might also love our Aussie wombats as well. They are a burrowing animal and cheeky as!!
check this one doing zoomies! all our special wildlife will be doing it tough with the drought and fires and it would be tragic for the planet to lose all the precious species.

  • Drought, heatwave and fire conditions are seeing koalas looking for water more than ever. Its estimated weve lost thousands now in the bushfire crisis and the aftermath is resulting in survivors starving and dying of dehydration. Koala in aboriginal language means "no drink".. they do not drink water unless they absolutely need it. As they survive solely on gum leaves the gums are losing their moisture and dropping leaves at an alarming rate.

I've just had yet another bushfire pop up near me. I am so over it and its pristine bushland that contains so much wildlife. Why hasnt it been declared a major disaster i will never know. So many species including koalas will go extinct because of this lowlife government not taking action soon enough. The major river here has never run dry... it has now. Its as bad as it gets. We got 10mill of rain on xmas eve it was not enough to fill the 10cm cracks opening up in the ground cause its so dry.

Sure sounds like a major disaster to me  I'm sorry to hear about the toll on you folks, on the wildlife, on the nerves.  Just terrible.  I hope things settle down out there.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

  • Sad situation. I hope wildlife numbers can bounce back. I fear the worst.

It is major considering the amazon fires burnt 250,000 hectares NSW alone has burnt 3.5 million hectares.
  • with all the devastation caused to our beautiful koalas here is an uplifting video that sure made me smile.

  • I visited port Macquarie koala hospital today!! Many of the burnt koalas were unable to be viewed due to their injuries. Amazing to see so many people there supporting it

I read some people are trying to convince the NZ government to introduce Koalas to NZ. They have enough eucalyptus trees. Might actually be a good idea if they don’t impact the native fauna?!

I don't think that will happen as our possums are already causing havoc over there. Aussie Ark is building a sanctuary in Barrington tops National Park one of the only areas relatively untouched by fire yet big enough for 1500 koalas with a predator fence and with bushfire preventative measures.  They already have a Tassie Devil sanctuary up there
