    For Whom The Bell Tolls

Still like the song but creeping death got burned into my brain. Faster. More my style.
I can see this being a bathroom/beer break song.

I missed round 2 but surprised Ride made it this far.

Creeping Death is probably right at the top for me.  The old Testament lyrics are amazing. And while I haven't seem them play in almost 30 years,  I'll always live the crowd chanting DIE over and over in unison.  I hope that still happens live.
I think it’s Woodstock 99, when Metallica plays Creeping Death and the whole crowd there is chanting die die die and pumping their fists. Gets me every time. If only I was smart enough to post videos.

    Nice thanks.

If this was a Metallica board,  would we have pages of people declaring Mustaine was better than Hemmett?
    Mustaine was/is better.

Creeping Death is the best song in all of Metallica's catalog. I only voted for For Whom the Bell Tolls because it seems likely to be the winner.

Brian Johnson statement about Maiden seems pretty ironic to me.
Creeping Death doesn't make my top 5...

Other than Back in Black,  Johnson pretty much sucks. ACDC was never half the band post Scott's passing.

I’m not just saying this because he’s an old chum, but I strongly disagree. Album-wise, there are two classics. One Bon. One Brian. But if you take this down to song level, Brian has had a helluva run. Angus is a goddamn beast. Malcom was the engine. Even Black Ice and Flick of the Switch had some bangers. Rock or Bust was pretty bad. Riffs were tired. We all know why. :frowning:

Blow up  your Video was bad too, although that was the first show I was able to see with them as the band was not a favorite of the parents of our day, if you recall.  I thought For those about to rock has like two songs, Fly on the Wall bad, etc.  By contrast, High Votage, Dirty Deeds and Highway were all great records in my opinion.  And while Let there be rock didn't have the big hits like the others, it was still a good record.
Not trying to dog out your friend at all.  I spent some time with him on the beach drinking some beers and he was very cool.  I'm just saying that Bon Scott had an amazingly distinctive voice, so menacing, so perfect for their music.  I just don't think the second part of their career measures up to the first.  And yes, Angus was just amazing.  Malcom was great but the booze really did a number on him.

Agree...strongly disagree that Johnson sucks.  Earlier was better, but had some really strong output after BS

    For Whom The Bell Tolls
I always knew Metallica fans’ taste was suspect, but for hot garbage like For Whom The Bell Tolls to make it this far, its worse than I could’ve imagined.

Fade To Black is probably THE best Metallica song.

I just pointed out their best song.... Written by Bruce for The Dream Child for god sakes. I have the soundtrack.

(and KISS' not so spectacular songs are what makes them great.)

I have to disagree with FWTBT being hot garbage (it’s a fantastic song), but fully agree that Fade To Black is one of the best there is!  It’s cool how music is such a subjective thing.

I've always liked this song because of the anti- war message and the absurdity of the human sacrifice for a hill.   This,  Disposable Heroes and One are where Metallica were at their best imo.  It's also why I hated the Black album so much,  the naked jingoism of Don't Tread on Me and the obvious move to commercialism and Republicanism

I don't even know who that is.  So I'll modify that Lars represented Metallica in the high profile anti-Napster piece.

I don't think any of the songs on Ride rank in my top 10 for Metallica. Master and Justice were so damn good, that there's only about 1 song off each that I find less than excellent. I just got done listening to Puppets and am halfway through Justice. Side B of Master in to Side A of Justice is dynamite. The lyrics, the guitars, the drums; metal perfection!
    It's a hopeless situation...

    :P

but yes. I still think going against an illegal thing like napster is better than shooting bears and moving from San Fransisco because it was too left wing.

Jason Newstedt is the best member though.

Newstedt was awesome.  I like him a lot.  Was into Flotsam back in my youth too.  Is Q Prime the same dickhead that struck the deal with TM to buy the premium tickets and then mark them all up on Stub Hub?

KICK ASS!  Burton was a stud.  Newstedt was cool and chill and seemingly not a dick.  Burton was a monster.

I had that same Metal Up Your Ass shirt that Hetfield is wearing.  I wore it to school in 8th or 9th grade and got a day of in school suspension for it.  Plus they covered the ASS and the half the knife with tape.
