  • I absolutely LOVE this song... maybe also because i recognize myself in it!
it's easy to confuse a great design with life's ripercussions

i'd rather die than give you control

I love reading about someone hearing a PJ song for the first time.
    Takes me back.

That's a great tune. Probably one of my faves.
Like tina said......I see myself in it.

BTW, anyone know what the hell "id" is???
I usually refer to the song with the alternate title 'I got shit'
because I never could figure out what 'id' is.

'Id' is one of Freud's parts of human subconscious. The 3 parts as he theorized were Ego, Super-ego, and Id. Id is the selfish, or pleasure seeking, part of the human unconsious. Go do a Google on Freud and Id. You'll get better info than I can give you here.

btw, as far as I'm concerned, the song is called I Got Shit.

    Wow. Thanks.
I never would have guessed it had that deep of a meaning.
Then again, I should have.....coming from Vedder and all......

I always thought it was "I Got ID"..... like I got identification if you need it!! I figured they picked a random word to take the place of the word "shit" so they used ID for whatever reason...... just as easily as they could have used any other word in the English dictionary.

The nature of the title is somewhat muddied. I have heard Ed say I.D., Id and Shit.

On the Merkinball single it is listed as "I Got Id", so I would say that that is the legal copyrighted title. Call the song what you will, it kicks ass.
  • oh I just looooove this song!
"look in my eyes deep and watch the clouds change with time"
  • awesome song, its one of my favorites definitely.
the man they call my enemy ive seen his eyes, he looks just like me, a mirror... the more you read weve been deceived, everyday it becomes clearer... clearer
  • I just rediscovered this song yesterday and am now absolutely obsessed. SO SO GOOD. So emotional. So beautiful.

"If just once i could feel love stare back at me"
"Never held you in real life"

I love rediscovering pearl jam songs, they're like a fine wine, they get better with age.
"All i want is for you to make love to me...that's just in the song, i don't mean it" Eddie (14-7-93)
  • That song is definitely one of my faves. I might even buy RVM just to get the studio version of it.

"Empty cup in the middle of the sea"
Well, do you need a lot of what you've got to survive?
  • First heard this song on one of the bootlegs from the 2000 tour. Liked it immediately and loved it even more when I finally heard the studio version on RVM. Definitely one of my top 10 songs...

  • Easily on PJ-top5.
"If just once I could feel love"
  • I think this is about the only PJ song that i actually prefer the studio version to the live.

One of the best ever done by the PJ's. Cant beat that opening line,

"My lips are shaking, my nails are bit off......:

    Oh yeah... what a song,

I like how it ends the same way the song starts...well you know what I'm talking about right? :p It begins and ends with the same line "My lips are shaking, my nails are bit off..."

One of the best for sure.
"All the strength that you might think would disappear, resolving..."

oh my God. Weather this song is played live or it's the album version, it is phenominal. I remember the first time I heard I got ID (or I got shit, whatever you prefer to call it), and I fell in love with the song. I was in Tulsa, OK visiting family for Thanksgiving, and luckily, the radio station played it every hour. Phenominal song, definatley sad though. I then heard a live version and nearly pissed myself, it was that good. Then I got to hear it when I saw pj live the 2nd time and it was pure bliss. Pearl jam is one of the most talented musical staples around 15 years and counting. The funny thing is, I first heard I got Id on the way home from the zoo. Great song, I can't say that enough

  • I hope they play it in halifax. I got a request in for the local radio station for this song. Pretty cool.
  • It's one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs of all time, for many reasons... The first time I heard it was November 1995. I was driving back up from Florida to New York with my family. It was late in the evening and we were driving through New Jersey and the NYC radio stations were finally coming in. It came on the radio and I freaked out. I had my headphones on in my little walkman. It was so beautiful!!! There is nothing like hearing a pearl jam song for the first time. It's one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs to this day.
"I will feel alive as long as I am free" - e.v.
  • when i heard the title of this song i was like... hmm... crap

    how wrong of me

Can anyone tell me when this song was made? It seems like they've been playing it live for quite a while yet it never made the earlier albums why is that?!
