But I haven't got a clue what the song is about. Maybe I will someday...
The streets are fields that never die
Deliver me from reasons why
You'd rather cry, I'd rather fly
I may be boring but at least I'm not Jack fucking Johnson.

I love garden. The only bad thing about it in my opinion are those lines. I feel the song so much, without litteraly understanding the lyrics, but since I do question our existence a lot, that part ruines the song for me a bit. I would eddie to sing:
"I do question, our existence
and I question, our modern needs."
oh well, can't have it all now can you.
and I think you people are thinking to specific about song meanings.
for example: In My Tree isn't about anything specific, in my mind (or if it is, it's is just an extended metaphor, an example; ) I think it is simply about alienation, putting yourself above in every sense.

I am mine
I like the words, they sound good together, but I've never really connected them to anything specific or worked out a meaning or anything (if there is one).
its about as humans we are our own....our time here is up to us, what we do is our choice..."i know i was born and i know that i'll die..the in between is mine" perhaps it also is a statement about religion too, but me being religious, i dont like to think about that as much as the first one.

Matt Lukin was the bassist (I think) for Mudhoney. The song is basically about how people won't leave Ed alone and he goes to Lukin's to relax (I'm going to Lukin's, I got a spot at Lukin's, Knock the door at Lukins, open the fridge, now I know life is worth.)
I always thought Yellow Ledbetter had no meaning. They were just jamming and Ed made the lyrics up on the spot and some of them are just incoherant mumblings. That's why the live versions are always different. There are no official lyrics.
I would say Pilate is the big one that I can't even come close to figuring out. Did Pilate actually have a dog? Is he refering to Jesus?
"I may be drunk but at least I'm not insane."
"I don't have a drinking problem 'Cept when I can't get a drink."
"There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk"
-Tom Waits
WTF does the title Yellow Ledbetter mean? Was Huddie Ledbetter a total fucking coward or something???? I can almost get some of the lyrics, but the title...
