Bernie Sanders

In 2015 in regards to Baltimore

"Anyone who took the walk that we took around this neighborhood would not think you are in a wealthy nation" "You would think that you are in a 3rd world country"

I don't give a fuck what that racist piece of shit says.

Im buying a summer cottage in Baltimore and inviting all my friends.

Again, I am not wasting my time listening to this obvious racist.

Sometimes it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. I expect more from POTUS. I’m not outraged at what Trump said or even disagree, but “Come on Man!”
Who knows? Maybe this could rally people to improve their lives and communities, that would be cool.

Exactly!  I've been to Baltimore.  It is a rat infested shit hole. But a president with some class (ours has zero) would have said something along the lines of, "It's a shame that in this country, the good people of Baltimore must endure the conditions of your city, Representative Cummings.  Let's work to find ways to improve it."  But Trump doesn't care.  He has his towers.

What is the "infestation"  that makes Baltimore "infested". Trump didn't mention rats or seagulls or anything.

This might be the fasted derailed thread in AMT history.  Started off with the thread title "Bernie Sanders" and stopped being about Sanders in about 2 and a half minutes.  This place...

See, thats the problem...people don't like hearing the TRUTH and need to have things desrcribed to them in a delicate way so  people's feeling's don't get hurt .  This whole Racist angle that Cummings, and the rest of the Demorats are trying to play with this known Truth I think is insulting to anyone with a brain.  But when has that ever stopped them in their search for VOTES???

See, thats the problem...people don't like hearing the TRUTH and need to have things desrcribed to them in a delicate way so your typical snowflake's feeling's don't get hurt.  This whole Racist angle that Cummings, and the rest of the Demorats are trying to play with this known Truth I think is insulting to anyone with a brain.  But when has that ever stopped them in their search for VOTES???
Yeah I don't care for the racist angle either. Even if he is racist, which he probably is, save the cries of racism when he does something racist (which he often does). Is it tacky and unpresidential to attack an political opponent like Trump did to Cummings? Sure. But he's attacked Nancy Pelosi for how crappy San Francisco has become in the exact same manner. Does he care about Baltimore or San Francisco? Of course not. But these are the districts represented by his political opponents and he's a dick that attacks people, so he's going to be a dick and attack them on it.

So it's not racist to attack Pelosi but it is racist to attack Cummings. Now, Trump used the word "infested" when talking about the rats and rodents in Baltimore and, as some guy on CNN explained, that's racist to use "infested." Whatever. As I see it, they're calling him racist because he's attacking a black man. Surprised he wasn't called sexist for attacking Pelosi.

Not that I condone these petty, stupid attacks from Trump. Especially in these cases where the city governments deserve more blame than Cummings or Pelosi. But I don't think it was racist to attack Cummings. Immature and unwarranted. Sure. But not racist.

Lastly, I've never been to San Fran so I can't speak to that, but I've been through Baltimore a few times over the past few years and he's right, it's horrible there. Chris Rock once had a joke about the war in Iraq that sums it up.....

"We had to take down Iraq because it's the most dangerous place on Earth. If it's so dangerous, how did we take over the entire country in two weeks. You couldn't take over Baltimore in two weeks!"

The joke (or sad truth) there is that there are areas of Baltimore that are like a demilitarized zone. And that joke was from like 15 years ago. According to my friend that lives in Baltimore, and from what I've seen myself, it's only gotten worse.

Welcome to the boards. Just for context, so I understand where you're coming from, have any of Trump's tweets come across as racist to you? Some of his targets have been black athletes, black community leaders, Congresswomen of color, African countries, Muslim bans, Mexicans being gang bangers and rapists, invasions from the southern border, etc... Anything there that is interesting, or just cases of misunderstanding?

    Oh, dearest Linda.

When put in context of the man's 40+ year public history of expressing racist behavior it shouldn't insult you... because you have a brain. Right?

Asked about her recent trip to Savannah, GA First Lady Elanor Roosevelt replied "it's a beautiful lady with a dirty face".

Well this pissed off the locals something fierce and they changed the look of the neighborhood.

Thank you for the welcome, interesting place this forum is....To answer your question, No, I don’t think they are racist attacks.  I find it offensive that the media and “Progressives” try to put a racist angle in on everything the President says it tweets .   But I am a old bird, so as I keep on hearing and reading stuff everywhere, my time has come and gone.

Greetings, lindamarie.  First, I must tell you, another someone very special in my life is named Linda Marie.  Caught my eye right away.

Yes, this place called AMT is a bit rough around the edges.  When things get too whirly around here, there's always the no-conflict "Lounge Car" thread.  Or you can always duck out and see what's new in "Other Music" (good stuff happens there!) Or trip out a little in AET.  The on-going challenge here is to attempt to have civil conversations on hot topics.  It's kind of like trying to dance gracefully on broken glass. We could all do a better job of sweeping the floor sometimes.

As for Trump's statement about Baltimore, yes it was true.  But it the way he says things that disturb many of us.  Baltimore is like my face was after skin cancer surgery.  A Trump like statement would have been something like, "You look like a nerd that's been in a knife fight."  A concerned statement would have been more like, "That looks painful.  I have some pain relieving ointment if you'd care to try some."  This is no exaggeration.  There is the brazen truth, and then there is the concerned truth.  Give me the latter, please!

And as for Trump being a racist or not, is that even debatable?  I don't see how it could be.  I'm open to listening, but I'd need some triple extra heavy duty proof... or a magic wand.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Welcome to the boards. Just for context, so I understand where you're coming from, have any of Trump's tweets come across as racist to you? Some of his targets have been black athletes, black community leaders, Congresswomen of color, African countries, Muslim bans, Mexicans being gang bangers and rapists, invasions from the southern border, etc... Anything there that is interesting, or just cases of misunderstanding?

Do you find it offense that some republicans and independents like myself can clearly see the racist angle as well?

    Oh, dearest Linda.

When put in context of the man's 40+ year public history of expressing racist behavior it shouldn't insult you... because you have

This.. right here.  Baltimore is Trump's district.  He is as responsible,  if not more,  as the representative of the district.  It's that simple to me.
